That is very interesting. Am I being stupid but surely, one of the objectives of a loyalty programme is to incentivise people to fly more often on your airline. If the top tier is a secret, where's the incentive? Anyhow, moving slightly off...

For Star Alliance fans, there are plenty of good connections from both MAN and BHX on Lufthansa and Swiss via far nicer airports than Heathrow so no great loss!
