Unauthorised Seat Changes...Is it widespread?

On numerous occasions with British Airways my pre-assigned seats have been changed without any warning or follow up notification. These changes could not have been made by other travellers on the same booking because they do not use computers....

The news article by Business Traveller states "British Airways has cut fares for departures from London Gatwick airport by up to 20 per cent...". The "by up to" are key words here.

Keep the transit time in the UK to less than 24 hours. This avoids the UK departure tax becoming appliable and BA's own fare recalculation treating the change of plane as a stopover.

Whay is BA YQ classified as a Tax?

Care needs to be taken when comparing real taxes, on different tickets.
For example the UK APD does not apply to through tickets where the journey starts outside of the UK and the connection at the UK airport is made within 24 hours of arrival.

Through Baggage Check at Heathrow T5

They can't even get the baggage system at T5 to work for journeys which start at London T5, let alone connections.
