Gatwick Airport begins screening passengers arriving from countries at risk of the Ebola virus on Tuesday morning.
Passengers arriving at the North Terminal will be examined using equipment that detects increased body temperature, while the South Terminal will be subject to similar scrutiny later in the week. The airport has a few flights to West Africa, chiefly Gambia, although this country is not thought to be at risk.
Heathrow, which has more routes from this region, began screening last week. Eurostar passengers arriving at St Pancras station are expected to face similar examinations soon.
Passengers that show an increased temperature will be quizzed about their movements and medical history and have contact details recorded. Cases that are deemed to be more urgent will sent to a specialist unit.
