We found Uber to be very good and extremely cheap in Hanoi. Most trips within the city were between 15,000 and 25,000 Dong. That’s less than US$1. Most of the drivers were very friendly and enjoyed the opportunity to practise their English. We didn’t use them to or from the airport, but that might be worth trying.
I absolutely agree Chris in Makati, I always use Uber from the Sheraton into town and back again, the cars are in good working order and the price as you state ridiculously cheap compared to other countries in the region, and have had some fascinating conversations with the drivers, albeit I am not sure whether much was truly understood on both sides ….
