    This is well after this thread commenced but it is also the case that within your ticket price you pay for NATS/CAA provided air traffic services. Does that make BA responsible for them as well? Err, I think not. Regrettably, when BAA was privatised in yet another Tory bodge (just take the cash and ignore the inevitable consequences of establishing an almost wholly unaccountable private sector monopoly), it became almost impossible for anyone to deliver a smart kick up the pants to BAA management because neither BA nor anyone else was allowed to finance and build their own terminal at LHR – unlike at JFK.

    The responsibility for this situation lies with Tory Transport ministers, HM Treasury mandarins and Tory voters who put them there. And yes, this is a straightforwardly political issue and derives from the crosses that individuals put in boxes on ballot papers. People need to take some responsibility for their political preferences and actions.
