I guess they might play Toto’s “Africa” at the wedding?

I hear the drums echoing tonight
But she hears only whispers of some quiet conversation
    She’s coming in 12:30 flight
The moonlit wings reflect the stars that guide me towards salvation
I stopped an old man along the way
Hoping to find some old forgotten words or ancient melodies
He turned to me as if to say “Hurry boy, It’s waiting there for you”

It’s gonna take a lot to drag me away from you
There’s nothing that a hundred men or more could ever do
I bless the rains down in Africa
Gonna take some time to do the things we never have

Probably originated from my son. He’s prone to exaggeration 😉

Thanks Capetonianm. So your breakdown doesn’t mention the Fiscal Tax…Angola. Weirdly, a friend has bought the same trip on BA.com and has exactly the same 20p deduction on his statement!
    Thanks for your efforts…

It doesn’t seem to apply to departures from ATH, but only from the above mentioned :
ON DEPARTING PASSENGERS FROM CFU, CHQ, EFL, KVA, PVK, SKG, ZTH:
AND ON DEPARTING PASSENGERS FROM JMK, JSI, JTR, KGS, MJT, RHO, SMI:

£200,000…is a lot of money. (At least that’s what the finance minister of Angola thinks!).

    [/quote]

Then the Finance Minister is rather far out of the loop. Dos Santos and his ministers, and most particularly the fragrant Isabel of Sonangol, are all wealthy beyond belief.

A regular arrival at PDP, and also no doubt at CDG or FCO etc is a TAAG private charter ferrying Luanda politcos on shopping trips.

A couple of hundred thousand Quid is chump change for those boyos.

The official reply…from the office of Alex Cruz.

BA has to add a 20p tax to all Greek departures. So their accounts department allocated a code to this tax. But, unbeknown to them, they had already used the same code for an Angolan tax some years ago. The computor recognised the code and now calls it the “Fiscal Tax Angola” for obvious reasons!
The 20p tax will now be renamed. Bingo…we can all sleep tonight, knowing it has been solved.
Great fun…but don’t switch the computor off again Mr Electrician!! ?

The information they have given you is not even correct.

    1) It doesn’t apply to ‘all Greek departures’, it only applies to certain airports.
    2) If I can access correct and updated information on the ZL code, they should be able to do the same.

I would have thought Cruz would have better things to do than worry about a 20p. tax but seemingly not. Maybe he needs to look at the quality of the loo paper next.

So once again it’s congratulations to BA on a job well executed then….

@Capetonianm…I think the reply came from one of his lowest mignons, so I don’t expect much more. But it drew their attention to another of their accounting problems. A great job from you, though.

Lots of rain in CT today so far…schools and offices closed.
