Luggage: 11 new cabin bags for 2016

1. Samsonite GT Supreme Collection

Samsonite is specifically targeting business travellers with the launch of the GT Supreme Collection. This backpack and rolling tote are made from a combination of tough nylon for durability and soft cowhide leather for style. A key feature is the Radio Frequency Identification or RFID-protected pocket, which blocks malicious electronic signals from stealing personal information contained in travellers’ passports, IDs and credit cards. The backpack is designed with a tablet compartment as well as a front zippered pocket. Both items are available in black or dark olive.

2. Delsey Helium Air 2

This is Delsey’s lightest-ever hard-case luggage. The four-wheeled case has been optimised for maximum internal volume, with the pull handle stored half outside the case. Heightened security comes in the form of a TSA combination lock and Zip Securi Tech – which is reportedly 41 times more resilient than a normal zip. Seven vibrant colours are available, ranging from tangerine orange to emerald green. To celebrate its 70th anniversary this year, Delsey will also roll out three additional gradated designs in purple, grey and light blue.

3. Delsey Dauphine 2

At just 1.5kg, the Dauphine 2 is an extremely lightweight option, but thanks to reinforced sides and resistant Teflon-coated material, it’s still a tough little number. The slimline case was designed to comply with airline regulations while maximising storage space. Colours available include metallic blue, black, red and khaki.

4. Rimowa Bossa Nova Cabin Multiwheel

This dark-green case, with trademark Rimowa grooves, is styled with distinctive tan cowhide leather trim on the corners and handles. The interior lining is also beige, with fabric “as light and robust as parachute silk”. Meanwhile, the special Multiwheel system has been designed to allow the case to roll through rough terrain.

5. Rimowa Bolero Business Multiwheel

Bolero has been designed “for business and touring” – with organisation being the name of the game. The small case comes with a hard polycarbonate shell, plus a spacious front pocket containing document dividers. Inside the main compartment are more pouches, including an integrated laptop and cable pocket to maximise efficiency.

6. Tumi  TahoeLinden International Two Wheeled Carry-on

The soft yet durable fabric of this carry-on creates a casual aesthetic, while the clean architectural lines and polished look are still suitable for work-related travel. The bag employs a seam-sealed finish to ensure protection from water. Multiple zip pockets provide options for storage.

7. Tumi Arrive Julius International Expandable Carry-on

Tumi has relaunched its Arrive collection, featuring high-polish chrome retractable handles, a lightly padded pocket lined with a non-abrasive micro fiber suede, and sleek magnetic zippers. At 5.8kg it is the heaviest model featured here, which may be a negative for some, but the item does boast an 11-inch (28cm) expanded depth for maximum flexibility.

8. Lojel Lucid

The brightly coloured Lucid collection from Lojel certainly stands out from the crowd, with five bold colours to choose from including “Passion Red” and “Carrera Blue” (pictured). The hard polycarbonate shell
features a front pocket for a laptop, tablet or iPad. Security features include a TSA lock and tamper-proof zipper.

9 Travelpro Maxlite 4

The Maxlite 4 offers both lightweight and durable features. A water-repellent coating has been applied both inside and out, while the exterior is also stain and abrasion resistant. The main compartment expands by two inches (5cm), maximising flexibility when packing. Available colours include ocean mist blue, black and purple.

10 Lat 56 Road Warrior Carry-On Suitcase Two-wheel

This nifty two-wheeled case comes with a patented “Suit Packing System” for wrinkle-free garments. Other handy features include a detachable water-resistant bag for shoes or laundry, plus an assortment of pockets. There is also an external pocket to store 100ml toiletries for easy access at the airport security check.

11. Lat 56 Red-Eye Garment Bag

Saville Row tailors were consulted in the making of this compact garment bag. Two suits can be carried in this lightweight case, with a special torso-shaped hangar to ensure reduced creases. There’s also space for overnight essentials such as spare shirts, underwear and even shoes. A sleeve strap on the back allows travellers to attach it to the handle of other luggage.
