peter19ParticipantI have a trip planned in Jan and just wanted to get some thoughts and advice from the forum.
I’m flying Cathay, PE from
ABZ -> LHR -> (77W) HKG -> (333) PER.
What’s the options for Cathay upgrades? I read they were trialing a bidding system but this is no longer valid. Not many upgrades ever given unless full fare price uplift is paid, is this correct? And i cant use Avios.I’m also flying back on the 777 that has the WC in the right of the PE cabin.
Seat 30d is free but i hear nightmares of passing traffic on this seat? so have opted to the next best based on current avail which is a window seat in the second row (32a). luckily the 777 on the way out is the different config.I haven’t connected in T3 for a while nor HKG for many years so which lounges would you recommend?(I’m BA silver). There are some pretty good reviews of the flagship lounges at HKG.
I like a quiet corner with a view preferably and as long as there is a decent Red wine and a Gin available with some good food then I’m generally happy.11 Dec 2014

seanyjmuclhrParticipantI recently flew LHR > HKG and back again on Cathay in PE on 777s, both with different configurations. For the return journey, it was an overnight flight and I was sat behind the toilet. Passing traffic was minimal as many people are fast asleep. Plus, the toilet door faces forward and not to the side, therefore minimising light pollution.
As for hoping for an op-up, unless you’re an über CX Marco Polo card holder, it’s a very slim chance. Holding a BA Silver card is not going to cut it unless everyone else in PE is without any status whatsoever, and the cabin is oversold and there are spare seats in business.
As for the lounge access, your BA silver will get you into LHR T3 galleries lounge. It’s not the best lounge, but it is not the worst either. As for HKG, I am not sure if it will get you into CX’s Wing.

AnthonyDunnParticipantWell, CX Diamond and Ian from HK are the oracles on most things related to CX but it is my clear understanding that a BAEC Silver (OW Sapphire) should get you into the Wing Business Class lounge(s) at HKG. See:

In which case head for upstairs rather than the downstairs lounge so that you can avail yourself of the Noodle Bar:

but I always appreciate the advise and experiences from the forum.
is the Cathay T3 lounge any better than the BA T3?

CathayLoyalist2ParticipantPeter19, with a configuration that has just 4 seats in the Front Row of PEY i.e. Row 30, avoid row 30 and in particular 30G. The reason is there is enough room for passengers from rows 31 to 34 and ‘Y’ passengers from the Economy cabin to cross in front of you to get to the solitary toilet adjacent to 30G. When there is a queue for the toilet people congregate and invade your space if you are 30G. It is not much fun being woken up by people tripping over you. For some reason CX allow ‘Y’ passengers to use that single toilet. The best seat for me anyway is 32H. It is behind the toilet but far enough away not to be noisy and you can get out easily if needs be. Or try 31C an aisle seat. The seats overall are good.

peter19ParticipantCathayLoyalist2, thanks for the info i heard this was the case but thought 32H and 32G would be too noisy with the WC. 32H is currently free i prefer the extra room so might consider this rather than the other side of the aircraft. there are no free seats at 31A and C currently unels some folk shift around nearer the time.

slotskiParticipantI definitely prefer the LHR T3 Cathay lounge. The catering is much better and there is a half decent view of the apron.
