DoorsToManualParticipantThis week I had the unfortunate experience of using the First BA Lounge at Gatwick North. I have always held the BA Dubai Lounge in first place as BA’s worst lounge but LGW is up there. It’s old, tired, with a dreadful food offering (stale scones) and now serving the currently trendy ‘Mac & Cheese’; it’s microwaved (only to warm and not hot) and presented in the most odd of dishes. It’s not very nice, no cheesy taste and far too much sauce. So, where’s worse on the BA network?

openflyParticipantI totally agree. But we won’t have to suffer it much longer. As a start to BAs move to the South Terminal, the very old and tired First lounge is closing at the end of Oct, according to the staff. Until the full move in late 2016/early 2017 there will only be the Galleries lounge for First and Gold passengers. Personally, the early closure seems to be another cost saving exercise, as there are no plans for a First lounge in the South Terminal.
The worst BA lounges are at the several European airports where BA has NO lounge….including BAs third busiest airport, London City! I am grateful for any lounge.

seasonedtravellerParticipantI am currently in the First lounge at PHL and I have to say, it’s excellent – modern, clean, comfortable & a good choice of snacks and wines, beers etc.
Not had dinner yet but it looks very nice indeed.
Great experience – Nice one BA.Also, its significantly better than any USA based airline lounge I have been in (and I’ve been in plenty)
As for the worst – Personally, I hate the absolutely tiny BA first lounge in ORD terminal 5 – no room to sit more than about a dozen people.

AnthonyDunnParticipantPersonally, I rate Galleries at LGW higher than the First Lounge – it has a far better selection of food and beverages. That said, having tried out a range of continental European lounges over the past few years in places like Bordeaux (a cupboard shared by all carriers accessible with a key obtained from the fast-food outlet in front of it…) and the shared facility at BLQ (the catering amounts to prosecco, peanuts and crisps), I have learned to appreciate BA’s London lounges which are very considerably better than an awful lot of other places.
The prize, of course, still goes to Cathay’s the Wing in HKG.

ExecPlatAAParticipantCX Wing has good features (shower/cabana and the restaurant) but for “lounging” it is not cosy. Totally exposed and does not feel exclusive. I prefer the BA First lounge at T5 (certainly better Champagne than the Wing, albeit the food at the Wing is better). The best of all worlds is the Qatar Hamad lounge – stunning space, excellent restaurants (yup, more than one) and the quality of the food and drink (Krug! – this may change) ae world class – as are the showers and seating areas. Makes CX lounges look like that of an North American carrier in comparison.

DoorsToManualParticipantStay focused…we’re looking for the Worst BA Lounge…thus places to avoid. However, since you have mentioned your favourite lounges…SYD Qantas First lounge and Etihad Business/First in AUH.

seanyjmuclhrParticipantVerona: shared lounge is before security, absolute shocking selection of anything, and half of the tiny box room lounge has a shop in it (!?).
Frankfurt: for such an important business destination, relying on Japan Airlines’s lounge is woefully poor. Plus, it’s before security.
Munich: nice lounge but once more than 25 people are in it, the 12 small sandwiches and potato skins are gone in a heartbeat. Drink selection is poor and the coffee machine has been broken for weeks now.
Orly: you are directed to the IB lounge which is miles from where the BA flights leave from and before security and passport check.
Berlin Tegel: tiniest BA lounge ever, shocking selection of anything really, again pre passport ctrl and security. The world awaits Berlin Brandenburg with anticipation….

Nah… the TXL lounge is intimate but far from being the worst. Let’s remind ourselves that it fits into an airport that was built in the 1960s and which has remained pretty much the same over some fifty years. That the new Berlin Brandenburg is now some FIVE YEARS late and a fine tribute (sic) to Germanic thoroughness and efficiency is hardly BA’s fault:

Gold-2KParticipant@ExecPlatAA ……. this is a serious discussion. Stay focused! Don’t waste time worrying about Islamic State or instability in Ukraine, we need to know where the stale sandwiches and soggy crisps are! Just the other day I was forced to drink white wine out of a red wine glass. BA standards are falling through the floor! What’s the world coming to 🙂 🙂

pheighdoughParticipantBack to the subject matter…
Hanover. Used to be the Karl Jatho lounge with a view of the runway between concourse A and B but since the refurbishment the windowless soulless lounge on concourse C is the BA lounge. Rubbish food, rubbish drinks and patrolled by a very scary lounge dragon. Best avoid.
Luckily I also have a Priority Pass which gets me in the Karl Jatho lounge, so not so bad.
Also, if ever in Hanover Airport avoid the Movenpick Restaurant. The slowest service ever, normally 1 hour from order to food
