I'm travelling to Miami for 5 days in May with my pregnant partner. I have read several hotel reviews/reports on tripadvisor and similar sites but still cannot decide on where to stay.
Do you have a favourite hotel or recommendations for a Miami hotel? Maximum rate is between GBP150-200 per night, beach and/or resort hotel is a must.
Any advice/recommendation you can give is much appreciated!
Andy,
Two years ago, following a recommendation, I had a fantastic week based at The Betsy Hotel on south beach. Am not a fan of chains and this Hotel demonstrates how the personal touch can create something special without ridiculous prices.

As LP has also noted, I have found www.booking.com as being highly competive when booking. The prices here are nearly every time are cheaper than price quoted on hotel's own site.

i ve often stayed at the delano in south beach and cant wait to return. it s like a small fantasy land with a beautiful pool and beach setting and close to the south beach shops and restaurants. not nearly as hipster as it used to be too which is a good thing! enjoy your trip.

We've stayed at Lowes quite a few times, service is good and location in great. They are very family friendly, maybe too family friendly if you don't have kids, so consider somewhere else if you want a quiet relaxing break.
Good luck with Miami airport - I find it one of the worst places on earth to fly to, especially if you need to transit!
Dear Andy,
Miami Beach is a great place to visit with family in May, and hotel rates are at their lowest during the summer months. Our Wellness Garden and Spa on the roof deck may be of special interest to your wife - we have several massage and wellness treatments designed especially for pregnant women.
We would be delighted to welcome you to The Betsy, please feel free to contact our Revenue Manager, Fernando Marmolejos, directly at mailto:fmarmolejos@thebetsyhotel.com">fmarmolejos@thebetsyhotel.com for personal assistance with the best rate possible.
Hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you in May!
Best regards,
Jean Blackwell

to be more precise than the above. u have 3 choices
1. south beach
2. downtown
3. mid beach
they each have their pros and cons
south beach
1. hotels are generally very mediocre probably the most comfortable is the ritz carlton or the w
2. south beach has adv that u may decide not to hire a car and spend each day going to the beach and eating around their and walking up and down lincoln road (u shuld try texas de brasil restr)
3. at the end of the day after a few days u may get bored
4. in my view the area has become sleezy
midbeach
1. has beach and better hotels such as the hilton and renaissance with the latter almost new
2. beach is nice but misses buzz off south beach
3. u will need a car
downtown
1. i always stay downtown and always hire car
2. new marquis marriot is great as is the epic
3. conrad and viceroy are next tier and they are nearby
4. u can get very good deals in the conrad
5. much younger buzz downtown lots of nice restr nearby
6. u can also go to cocunut grove/biscayne island/coral cables - however these areas are really full of locals who are latinos mostly but thats what gives it a nice buzz
conclusion
i am in miami every 3 months for past years and now each time i stay downtown and hire a car and when i want the beach just drive there but generally move around without hassle but i know the city very well. i certainly wouldnt stay in south beach as its has lost all its appeal
joeadvisory - 03/03/2012 08:26 GMT
by the way i forgot to add that generally May is the best month in florida as usually that is when the weather is at its best
I personally love the Mandarin Oriental. Its not on South Beach, however i dont think this is essential if you have been to Miami before. if your a first timer then maybe South Beach would be a good idea though.

Conrad is very good if a little corporate. Th raleigh at the top of south beach was very good but that was 3 years ago. If you want to hire a car hertz will rent you a corvette at MIA for $145 a day....

I live part time in Florida, and while I am no fan of Miami, South Beach is fun, but as you stated your partner is pregnant, perhaps I could suggest staying a bit north in Bal Harbor. The St Regis Bal Harbor is a spectacular resort, there is fantastic shopping right on the door step and the area is far more relaxed and subdued compared to South Beach. As someone else mentioned, the Conrad located on Brickell Avenue is a great hotel, but this is the business district of Miami so not what I would consider a resort, although their pool and spa are great.
T D C - however Jean Blackwell came to join the BT Forum, IMHO top marks. Great to see a hotel manager/director take the time to contribute to a relevant thread. Well done!
Dear MartynSinclair - thanks for the kudos.
JoeAdvisory - you haven't been to The Betsy, have you? ;) At the "quiet end" of Ocean Drive, nestled in the Art Deco district, and anything but sleazy. With the New World Center around the corner, Lincoln Road, top restaurants and shopping, plus world-renowed beaches (#6 in the US now -http://travel.usnews.com/Rankings/Best_Beaches_in_the_USA/) - South Beach is more than just nightclubs now. Of course, you are right about Downtown, it is growing and developing very nicely, with a good number of hotels in the area. The beauty of staying in Miami and the Beaches is that everything is just a short taxi ride away!
Dear T D C - no matter which part of Miami you choose, I hope that you and your wife enjoy your visit and choose to make Miami and the Beaches your home away from home for years to come!
Very best regards, Jean Blackwell - The Betsy-South Beach

i havent and wouldnt want to at least based on the dinner we had there at the restr called BL or something like that if i remember some sort of steakhouse on the ground floor. i remember thinking the chef seem confused on what constitutes a good steak but in fairness maybe the kithcen has by now got its act together

I love The Savoy - simple and comfortable. It's located on the beach and a nice large pool which others lack. The same class at The Betsy but half the price in some instances. Danny Devito's restaurant which has the best burgers is also around the corner...
