    Hello all,

I have an interesting “problem” of sorts… I will have some time in late March to try this whirlwind round-the-world trip. I just need your suggestions for filling in the middle part for the cheapest and best value for my time.

MSP-NRT on DL to begin on 16 MAR

NRT to either SIN, BKK, HKG, TPE also on DL , but which one? Note, I will be in this city for less than 12hrs if not less as:

Chosen city to LHR, to attend football on 20 MAR

    LHR-MSP on DL 21 MAR

Any of your suggestions as which city to grab a pint and a meal in are very welcome! Also.. which airlines you would favor in getting to London, 1 stop if fine, as long as I arrive sometime late evening on the Saturday (19th)

I look forward to reading your ideas!

    Brian.

I have visited many times to SIN, BKK and HKG. As you are in the city for less than 12 hours, I suggest HKG as you can catch the Airport Express directly from the airport to Hong Kong station, it should take 30

Exclude BKK and TPE – they are somewhat away from the cities and not that interesting (at least to me). Out of HKG and SIN – both are good, though I would prefer SIN (lived there for a number of years, so know the place better) – take a taxi and you will be in the centre of the city in 25-30 mins with all the places to eat, drink and see

A city centre is a city centre, where ever you are, same shops, same chain restaurant’s… yes there will be a few local ones, but city centres are built around spending money…..

If you are brave….. I would do some research… and go to BKK. At the airport jump in a taxi and head anywhere, EXCEPT the city centre…..

Find an interesting spot on a map…and go there and enjoy being in Thailand. Brave, but far better than heading for a city centre….

Please let us know what you choose….

I can suggest a name of a tour guide who for the cost of less than the price of a Western meal will take good care of you and your party….

Worth considering what route gives you most time – via SIN is circa 10 K miles compared c 7.5 K via TPE (but don’t think there is a direct from there?).
For me SIN is easiest (they give tours & shopping vouchers for transit passengers) and there are good things to see but agree w MartynS that BKK is potentially a more interesting (and asian) experience.
Direct day flights from SIN, HKG & BKK leave early PM & get you to LHR around 2000 plus – but if in business (or tough) night flight give much more ground time.
Assume you are using SkyTeam rtw given your DL flights and that could restrict you but, if not & in coach my choice would be SQ. but TG etc are all OK.

Try BKK-LHR via CMB on UL…. Business class one way fare around GBP680. Brand new product too, and good timings with 2 hr connection in CMB.

I would agree with those above wou suggest SIN. Last year I did a 12 hour stopover en route to ADL and it was fantastic. Plenty of time to head out and see all the sight (the botanic gardens and garden by the bay are a must) as well as the Kampong Glam district.

Also gives you plenty of time to head back to SIN and make great use of the many spa like facilities within the hotel to get freshened up before your onward flight.

And again as highlighted above if you are flying with SIA through you will get transit shopping credit which can be spent on a bottle of your favourite alcohol (or non alcoholic) beverage.

    Definitely HKG……
I agree with Martyn’s , anywhere but a city centre sentiment, however Victoria Harbour is spectacular……..

If I was your personal tour guide, this is what you’d look forward to……
Firstly choose an early arrival into HKG and a late night departure to LHR!

Once clear of customs and in the arrivals hall, head to the 7/11 and purchase an Octopus card!

Jump on the Discovery Bay bus, and within 20 minutes you’re at the main DB plaza. Head to zak’s on the deck and enjoy a light breakfast in surprising peace and tranquillity over looking Tai Pak bay…. (1.5 hours apx)

Jump on the DB to Central ferry and arrive in to Hong Kong in proper style !! (40 mins apx)

Jump in a taxi , don’t worry about the cost, they’re cheap, and head to the Peak Tram station on Garden Road, and take the funicular tram to the top……I’d only do his if it’s a clear day.
Otherwise just go for a wander , maybe using the escalators to head for a cocktail in SoHo.

    Should be 4pmish by now.

After your refreshed jump in a taxi and head to the Star ferry , get a real feel for Hong Kong as you join the masses heading to Kowloon after work !!

Head up the main thoroughfare Jordan Road , and you’ve got the Flower market, but my favourite is the Bird market. I’d encourage you to leave the westernised Jordan Road and allow your senses to take in the side streets….
Once your senses have had enough, head to the Aqua Bar for abite to eat and treat yourself to another cocktail, although this isn’t cheap ! Make sure you time this for the light show , ideally you will leave for the airport once the show is over….

Head to the nearby Kowloon MTR station where you’ll pick up the Airport Express train and your back at Chep Lok for before 10.00….

Head straight to your gate and look forward to a well-deserved sleep to London //

I was leaning towards either Singapore or HK to begin, I was just interested in everyone’s thoughts! Thanks!

I have found a flight on EK from SIN through DXB that would work for my time-frame, any other suggestions as to flights or routing?
