    Hi All,

Does anyone know what time American Airlines release their airmiles flights please? I’m trying to book a ticket to Salt Lake City on Avios and I know BA release theirs at 6am every day, but I am trying to work out when I need to be on the BA website to book, to get the first chance at the internal US leg before they all sell. Anyone have any idea?

    Thanks!

    Hi InvitaWhile

I fly American a lot and normally get the airmiles credited after 48 hours. Normally not a problem.

I think the question hasn’t been answered 🙂 I think this is a question of redemption and not earning..

I am not sure if AA reallocates availability daily for redemption on specific routes. They do release 330 days out. I have not been able to determine a pattern after this point.

I use AA.com to look for available seats, then I book on BA.com. I find AA.com to offer a simpler check as it requires no log-in to view.

An alternative is a paid subscription to ExpertFlyer. They have a notification feature which can inform you if a seat opens up in a specific booking class. I use this frequently to monitor upgrades from CW to First on BA:

    From the AA website:

American Airlines and AAdvantage participating airlines offer flights up to 331 days in advance

Looking at JFK-LHR, flights up to 16 April 2016 are currently available. These open up at 12:01 CST which is, I believe, 6 hours behind UK time (AKA Chicago time). This is for AA metal flights!

Also, I’m not sure where 6 AM is for you, but when I booked award flights on BA via BAEC last week, the seats were released at midnight UK time.

Thanks all for the responses, much appreciated. It seems AAirlines wait a few weeks before they give their flights to BA – they have released their own AAdvantage flights for the dates I want, but BA availability for the flights is still 10 days behind AA. I was online at 6am this morning but nothing there, yet they show as available on airmiles on the AA website.

The airlines are useless when you call them, no-one seems to know when they will be available!

Have you had a quick look if Iberia is showing availability? And then transfer Avios across if you have an active IB account?

I don’t have an Iberia account so not an option. Thanks for the suggestion though!

I have always seen the same inventory in BA as I saw on AA.com. Are you sure you are looking at the right details? It should be:
    Economy MileSAAver
    Business/First MileSAAver
    First MileSAAver

The same flights have always been available on BA.com at the same time. Of course, the integration of USDM with AA Advantage could have changed something, but I don’t think there is a lag..

Definitely the same flights – March 17th 2016 one way, DFW to SLC. They are offered on the AA website as follows:

    Economy MileSAAver
    Business/First MileSAAver
    First MileSAAver

But when I call BA or chack online on their website, the latest they are able to make an Avios booking for the same flights is March 1st 2016. They show no availability for March 2-17 for the AA DFW-SLC flights, even though AA offer them for AAdvantage bookings.

I can see the exact same flights (MilesAAver) on aa.com as I can on ba.com for DFW to SLC on 17 March 2016 as far as OW is concerned (aa.com also shows AS flights which ba.com doesn’t). But either way, I can only see the US Airways flights via Phoenix. Nothing direct on either airline’s site. The direct AA flights are only available as AAnytime, which I imagine don’t get offered by other partners.

Are you able to book an Avios flight on BA.com for DFW to SLC for March 17th 2016? As that is what we need, but it’s not available on BA.com, only on AA.com with AAdvantage.

I know I can get to SLC via Phoenix and Philadelphia with BA but I would prefer to go via Dallas as it’s the more logical route. However, BA have said it’ll be about 10 days before they are able to book the route via Dallas with Avios, yet AA are offering the route on their AAdvantage scheme now.

If you are after the direct flights, on AA metal, my understanding is that, as there is no Saver availability on aa.com there will not be any availability on ba.com, even in ten days’ time. I am able to book DFW-PHX-SLC only, on US metal which is available as a Saver award on aa.com.

Don’t worry about it, it’s all too confusing and a waste of your time. There are no direct flights from the UK to SLC. The LHR-DFW-SLC involves a plane and terminal change at DFW, even though it looks like a direct flight they way they ticket it. I want BA transatlantic, and AA domestic. For some reason, AA offer the domestic flight on miles but not through BA.

I think I’ll just use my Virgin miles and fly via Atlanta – just means I have to eat my hat and fly Delta again, something I vowed I would never do!

No doubt you already know, but is the nonstop Delta CDG-SLC worth looking at?
