What! No more La Source at Hilton?

Has anyone else noticed that Hilton have dumped Crabtree & Evelyn's La Source bathroom soaps etc for Peter Thomas Roth? Who?

What a shame, clearly a cost saving measure, but some how devalues the product in not having a well known brand.

Tête_de_cuvée - 29/01/2012 14:11 GMT

Am postulating here, but could the change be due to the fact that when Crabtree & Evelyn came out of C11 a year ago it was purchased by a Malaysian palm oil company.
Decisions to alter key suppliers are often taken a year plus in advance of agreement renewal. As C&E may have been deemed vulnerable at the time, Hilton may have elected a more secure, up and coming, US supplier.

Bill_Hants - 29/01/2012 15:43 GMT

I think it was the WSJ that reported Hilton have relegated C&E's range to the down-market Embassy Suites and Doubletree grade hotels.

PTR are of course well known in the US as a premium brand. Presume Hilton wanted to move a bit more upmarket.

Nigel - yes, I also noticed this.

However, I prefer the PTR ones.

IMHO the best in the UK are those provided by Hotels du Vin. At a recent stay at the Royal Tunbridge Wells establishment (where else, old boy!) I noticed that HdV are now making them available for sale at reception, in case the ones you take home from the room aren't sufficient.

Toodle pip.

Simon

Sounds a shrewd move. After all, if guests scoop up all the freebies because they like 'em, they may even be prepared to buy some !

Cheers Guys, Didn't know Crabtree & Evelyn had been in Chapter 11, so the change would make sense, although C&E are still trading here in the UK.

Scenic Hotels in New Zealand also sell their smellies as they are an organic range.

LuganoPirate - 30/01/2012 17:00 GMT

Now at Hilton Dartford, and they have Peter Roth here. Hadn't really noticed the change but quite like the new shampoos etc.

NTarrant - 30/01/2012 17:10 GMT

You do go to some exotic places LP!

I like C&E but the PTR shower gel is growing on me.

SimonRowberry - 30/01/2012 17:16 GMT

Nigel,

I know what you mean - it's got crunchy bits in it!

Cheers, Simon

SimonRowberry - 11/02/2012 19:21 GMT

Folks,

Good job they are toiletries by Peter Thomas Roth and not Dave Lee Roth....

His would make you "jump," and perhaps a little too "hot for teacher," Or perhaps even bring you out in an "eruption."

An appropriate place to trial his products would be the Panama Hilton.

Simon

PS I think I might just have shown my age with the above post.....

HonestCrew - 11/02/2012 19:45 GMT

I am picturing you lot all sat around the pub table at the next BT Forum poster's drink passing around shampoos, "ooh, try this one... is it pomegranate?"

(I'll get the drinks in then shall I?")

SimonRowberry - 11/02/2012 19:50 GMT

HC

Nice one.

Mine's a gin and aloe vera (that well known Weatherfield combination), if you're offering.

S

SimonRowberry - 11/02/2012 19:54 GMT

Bill,

No - it's the PeterThomas Roth ones at Doubletree as well.

By the way - on that subject. I stayed at the Doubletree Newcastle Airport the other day. One of the best Hiltons I've stayed in in the UK. Well above many of the Stakis or Hilton National rebranded properties.

Also got loads of HH Benefits, unlike at the Hilton Newcastle Gateshead the next night. And only GBP 70 in the middle of the week.

If Newcastle Airport is typical of Doubletree, then the's nothing downmarket about them at all.

Cheers, Simon

NTarrant - 11/02/2012 21:01 GMT

Hi Simon

Oh no! No more Lemon Citrus or whatever it was hand cream at Double Tree. Now that is going down market Roth is no replacement for the C&E at Double Tree. Whatever next, no evening cookie.

The Double Tree Cadbury House near Bristol (nearer Weston-S-M really) is a nice location if you are that way and is as good as many Hilton's.

Stayed at the Hilton South Wharf Melbourne last month, fantastic. Next Hilton stay, Nottingham! At least Nottingham has got better.

Chhers Nigel

SimonRowberry - 11/02/2012 22:34 GMT

Hi Nigel

At least you're not at the Crowne Plaza Nottingham. Was there for a conference last month. Made me dream of staying in a soulless chain hotel instead of somewhere that wasn't sure whether it was an office block or a hotel...

Cheers

Simon

NTarrant - 12/02/2012 08:46 GMT

I have stayed at the Crowne Plaza Nottingham a few times, nice breakfast I recall. But yes office block! Annyoing position to have to put key card for air con.

Mostly I stay at Hilton, unless they want silly money then its HIExpress.

Francis7 - 15/02/2012 23:12 GMT

Peter Thomas Roth is viewed as a premium brand in the US. Hilton initially started providing these products on Exec/Club floors and then went property wide. Great marketing move for both PTR and Hilton.
Sephora carries his product line for retail in the US as well. Don't know about the UK. I have skin issues and have used some of his products for a couple years with great results before they made their hotel debut.

SimonRowberry - 15/02/2012 23:23 GMT

Interesting Francis. Come to think of it, the first time I came across the brand was at the Trafalgar, the flagship UK Hilton, a year or so ago.

Nigel - I must hang my head in shame and confess to having misled the Forum. Having just returned from 2 nights at the superb Doubletree Newcastle Airport, I noticed that you were indeed right. The toiletries are C&E (albeit a nice Citron sub brand), not David Lee Roth products. Apologies.

I can't believe how good value that Doubletree is. 2 nights standard rate (in the week), breakfast, wifi Internet, all drinks and dinner both nights, and the tab was a tad under GBP 250. I've spent that on my bar bill in one night at the Trafalgar in the past....

Cheers, Simon
