Virtual Golf Practice

When you don't have enough time to hit the green, do you practice your swing at in-town facilities with golf simulators?

No, I cant stand them. I prefer to use a proper golf club or range. However stangely enough I dont mind playing golf on the Wii.

I played virtual golf last month at a place called Urban Fairways in Singapore - it was great. Beers and snacks on tap all night, plus 9 holes at Mauna Kea in Hawaii and 9 holes at St. Andrews!

I have played at Urban Fairways as well! Very helpful staff, decent enough clubs, great bar food. I might well do it again if I am on my tod during an evening away.

I use Golf Hideaway in Hong Kong from time to time too. It's a nice way to spend a rainy afternoon.

Thanks Ian - I'll try Golf Hideaway next time I am in Hong Kong (2 weeks time) - thanks for the tip

No problem, Loyal_BA. Another option to consider in Hong Kong is SkyCity Nine Eagles (www.nine-eagles.com), a small (but challenging) 9-hole course very near the airport (opposite the Marriott hotel). It is fully floodlit and we quite often play there in the evening, for which they offer a special price which includes a $50 coupon to use in the pro shop and another $50 coupon to eat in their Thai restaurant (which is decent enough, but we tend to go to the buffet in the Marriott - although that is easier for us since we have a car). As a singleton you are quite likely to be required to play with someone else, but since the signposting from greens to the next teebox isn't terribly good (and on some holes it is far from obvious - I remember one round where I completely missed one hole!) that is probably no bad thing. If you don't get teamed up with someone else, ask to see a map of the layout and have someone talk you through the order of the holes, and particularly watch out for the 4th and 9th - on the approach to both these holes you have to cross over the closest tee-box to get to the one you want (i.e. after the third hole you have to cross over the 9th tee-box to get to the adjacent 4th, and vice-versa after the 8th). If you are, or are with, a lady player bear in mind that the ladies' tee-boxes for the 3rd and 7th are (normally) in a completely different place to the gents' tee-boxes (if you look on the website you can see this for the 3rd, but they don't show the normal ladies' tee-box for the 7th which is on the spur sticking out into the lake between the 6th and 7th tee-boxes).

Thanks Ian - if I get chance, I'll give it a try. I am travelling with others who do play so won't be on my own
