BullfrogParticipantI am still booked for the BA 787-9 next week to Austin, then Miami.
Instead of Portland & San Francisco, I have opted for some Caribbean sunshine.A few days in Dominica & Nevis. The question is, should I fly San Juan to Houston to catch a BA 777 First to London, or opt for Norweigan’s 46 ” economy plus seat non stop from San Juan to Gatwick ?
The latter must make most sense !

DaytripperParticipantBullfrog. Your post seems like an exercise in showing off that you are travelling in First rather than a genuine question to this forum, since I’m sure you are capable making up your own mind about this one.

BullfrogParticipantIt’s all about interpretation .. I wanted some advice on travel.
My brother in law who travels extensively around the world for a plc, was surprised that I’d even consider the Norwegian option ’46” economy plus’ option.
He thought a ‘flat bed’ in First would be the logical option.
I thought a non stop flight from SJU to LGW outweighed having to take another 4 hour flight to Houston.
Most contributors here think BA First is a ‘business class +’ option.
I’m sorry that you thought my post was to make others envious. The flight from Houston is booked with Avios points.

MrMichaelParticipantHaving never travelled in F, if I could afford it would be tempted by the BA flight. Having said that, it is a night flight, so you have to figure how well you might sleep on a 46″ recliner compared to a fully flat. Personally for a reasonable rate I would upgrade to F, however I would not pay so much to upgrade for a night flight as sleeping in j or f is no different….sleeps sleep.

first_class_pleaseParticipantI would take the direct flight myself.
Having decided to use economy on a few flights to the Middle East recently, rather than the usual J or F, I came to the conclusion (finally) I was only slightly more cranky on arrival but considerably better of financially.
Considering the Norwegian fare is probably about the same as the taxes on BA, for me the Avios would be better saved and used on a longer flight, or shorthaul hops.
As it`s 8 hours on a direct flight, allow 2-3 hours for dinner / movies and then being woken 1 1/2 hours before arrival for breakfast, then you are looking at 3 1/2 – 4 1/2 hours to sleep.
Unless you are going to a meeting upon arrival, I would go Norwegian on this occasion.

MartynSinclairParticipantIf you are willing to change airlines… is there not a VS flight departing somewhere nearer…

SimonS1ParticipantSeems a choice between 2 very different propositions.
8 hour direct flight in a 46″ seat compared to 9 hours in a flat bed plus 4 hour connection and transit time, say 15 hours total. I agree with Daytripper, I’m not really sure what to say beyond that, I think most people would be able to make a judgement call.
Personally I’d rather have the extra 7 hours at home than faffing about in planes and airports but YMMV.

dutchyankeeParticipantI agree with SimonS1, and first_class_please and go for the direct flight considering that amount of addition travel time to do the First Class option. Also, as MrMichael states, its a night flight, so sleep is sleep, and will you really benefit from all that First should offer, on a night flight (other than the flat bed)? Save the miles/avios and the time.

Ah,Mr.BondParticipantAre you going to St Kitts & Nevis, Dominica or San Juan.. or all of them? I have no idea what you are trying to do here.

Carajillo2SugarParticipantAnother consideration to take into account is the cost of a one-way flight to Austin, currently priced at over £9k in First (unless you managed an Avios booking?)

canuckladParticipantNot a “F” contributor but if I was, I’d say double backing would still be a no no.
Why would you add to your journey, by the time you get back to Texas and board your flight back to Blighty, you’ll need your flat bed. And thus, not take advantage of BA’s “F” on board offering…..
