Trade body ICAO (The International Civil Aviation Organisation) has downgraded te standards of aviation in Thailand.

It is believed the concerns are to do with the small Thai-based carriers rather than with national carrier Thai Airways.

But it’s as well keeping an eye on developments.

    Report via the BBC.

    From that report Alex:-
“Thailand’s aviation sector joins 12 other developing countries, including Nepal and Sierra Leone, that have been downgraded to Category 2 from Category 1 by the organisation (International Civil Aviation Organisation) for its safety standards”

What about France, I cannot believe that is Cat 1.

Why would you select France for your comment? Based on the “List of audited countries” in the report France is one of the leading nations with an almost perfect score. Better than most Western European countries, including the UK.

There’s more information in this Bangkok Post piece which also appeared yesterday.

We hope that small Thai-based carriers will do their best to solve this problem. If they are totally shutdown by ICAO many employees will lose their jobs. If they just let this problem slip away, tragedy in the future will certainly happen. We already heard so much bad news regarding airline crash this year alone. We hope this change soon.
