I had a few days to spare before flying home from the US and so i bought a cheap return flight with Spirit Airlines from Atlanta – Las Vegas. I soon discovered that this decision was probably the worst travelling decision I’ve ever made.

Spirit is basically America’s answer to European cheap carriers such as Ryanair, Easyjet, jet2 e.t.c where you pay for everything. Now I don’t really have a problem with that as it now seems to be the norm when travelling – rather annoyingly BA have even joined the pay for everything club! The problem I encountered with Spirit is their lengthy delays and non communication. Both flights (outbound/inbound) were delayed for about 3-4 hours. When the flight was delayed all of the attendants disappeared from the boarding desks. When boarding commenced the plane interiors were in very poor condition and extremely dirty.

When passing time for boarding I started to read some US forums, followed twitter conversations and soon realised my mistake. I would urge anyone not to fly this airline. On both the outbound and inbound flights I witnessed stressed and tired looking pilots, which is never a good thing.

Pay a few extra dollars or pounds and fly with Delta/AA/United.
