I am looking for a hotel in Singapore for my family to stay in for a long weekend in Singapore after 2 weeks in Thailand. We are looking for a luxury hotel to suit us all (Grandpa to little children!):
Currently we are considering the following:
Shangri-La
Fullerton
Capella

I would appreciate peoples views on these three.

Ritz-Carlton is also excellent if you can get a room with a view:

Though I've heard superb things about the Fairmont:

Hi Snowbaked,

If you want to stay around Marina Bay area,
Ritz Carlton, Fullerton and Mandarin Oriental are great.
however, I do not favor the area around it.

Fairmont is a nice one and you get direct access to Orchard Road by foot, just a straight road ahead through Bras Basah Road.

Personally I would recommend St Regis, It is by far my favorite hotel in SG, just off the street of Orchard road around Tanglin Area. Once you get out of the lobby, to the left is the quiet and lovely Tanglin and Botanical Garden and to the right is busy bustling Orchard Road (equivalent to London's Oxford street).

Alternatively, you may want to consider The Sentosa or Amara Sanctuary Singapore in Sentosa Island for a "seaside" holiday feel + you got a deal and an easy access to Universal Studio and The Resort World since you are traveling with your family.

Have a good trip!

Having tried many places over the years I now choose the Fairmont and will continue to do so until they give me a reason not to. For service it's unbeatable, the rooms are large by Singapore standards with excellent bathrooms (that always counts for a lot for me) and the breakfast offering is probably the best I've seen anywhere in the world.

My normal choice in SE Asia is Shangri-La but it does not compare well and is not in the most convenient location. The Ritz Carlton is OK but I think it lacks atmosphere.

I would also recommend the Fairmont when staying in Singapore. Of course if you are willing to pay for it for a special occasion there is always Raffles which I enjoy from time to time.

I was in Singapore on Sunday / Monday of this week. It is a horrendously expensive destination, I tend to try and use my starwood points, with or without the family so generally stay at the Sheraton. Also enjoyed Sentosa Island.

However, one hotel has got to me and it looks awesome. My next visit, without even looking at any revues will be

http://www.marinabaysands.com/

......the Infinity pool at the top is something else.

Make sure that which ever hotel you stay, there is plenty for the kids to do.

I love taking a both in a high level room at the Ritz Carlton, hell of view, good job no one can see in!

Enjoy.

I would echo the recommendation of the Fairmont, I have stayed there several times and I think it is a good balance of location, amenities, service and price.

The ST REGIS.
I have not stayed there, but been in the lobby and bar which are lovely and they also have a fantastic spa!

Not been for a few years, but the Regent/Four Seasons had great rooms and bathrooms. Fullerton and Marina Mandarin good also.

NTarrant - 20/10/2011 17:56 GMT

The Intercontinental is good and location fairly good too

I was most impressed with the St Regis when I visited Singapore a little while ago with parents and grandparent. If it's of interest, my thoughts at the time are to be found at:

Swissotel The Stamford might be an option, especially if you get an Harbour View Room as high up as possible. I am sure the children would enjoy the spectacular views.

Last year my wife and I treated ourself to a stay at the Raffles, and I have to say we both loved it, we will both stay there again in the future. The rooms are beautifull, the service is excellent and if you have a late evening departure you can spend the afternoon by the pool and use the facilities to get ready before your departure at no extra cost.

flyingfox - 21/10/2011 01:08 GMT

totally agree on the Fairmont. Practically perfect hotel. Breakfast by the pool is a highlight. It's linked to the Swissotel Stamford next door, which has smaller rooms and is less expensive. Great 360 degree views from cocktail bars at top of Stamford. Fairmont is much smaller than the Stamford, very calm atmosphere

I love the location - first exit off the airport expressway, so a quick journey in the cab; metro and great shopping centre downstairs; slip across the road to the Raffles for a drink in the Long Bar; underground shopping arcades link to the theatre complex and the Merlion; NOT at Orchard Rd (a plus in my view).

Have stayed at the Fairmont since the 90's, when the two hotels were both part of the Westin group. One of my favourite places to stay in the world - never disappointed!

My favourate hotel in S'pore is Conrad Centennial in Suntec City, not far from the Marina Bay. There are four other hotels within the Suntec City, including the Ritz-Calton & Pan Pacific. Rates can be as low as SGD 230 depends on season. Being a Hilton HHonors Gold member, I enjoy free upgrade to the excutive floors with complimentary lounge access which serve sparkling wine through out the day. Its evening cocktail is great.

Hktbound - 21/10/2011 06:54 GMT

I can highly recommend the Shangri-la Singapore. There is also a resort hotel on Sentosa but I believe the main hotel is also the flagship of the brand. We always try to treat ourselves to the valley wing. Although a huge treat you won't be disappointed

snowbaked - 21/10/2011 22:53 GMT

dear all, thank you so much for the recommendations

The Mandarin Oriental is looking like a winner at the moment, but we are just checking out the st. regis, and fairmont websites now.

I have spg platinum so that might help at the st. regis too.

tejostr - 22/10/2011 07:48 GMT

If you'r looking top-end I would recommend Marina Bay Sands.
If you'r looking for good value for money Holiday Inn Atrium is the place to be.

TomasReisinger - 22/10/2011 09:49 GMT

I agree with npchuaMY. Conrad executive floor is very fine

CrazyCanuck - 23/10/2011 09:38 GMT

Hi,

I would recommend the Shang. Close to all the action but can give you the peace you want as well. Great pool area and great breakfast variety at the Dunes cafe. Also have a look at the Fullerton, plenty of hisroty.
