Singapore Airlines 777-200 Riyadh to Singapore via Dubai - Business Class

SQ is well recognized for being a world class airline with a large route network and an outstanding hub at Changi airport, an excellent facility to visit, let alone connect through. SQ has begun serving RUH for a few years now which has since been well received. Unfortunately, given the overall shortcomings of RUH and it's services the check in and boarding process (hired agents from an independent supplier rather than full SQ staff) was sub optimal to SQ standards.

Check in
At T1 had a line for premium class passengers which took about 10 minutes as 3 passengers were ahead of me, I received the Boarding pass for my flight as well as onward flight to Manila. An invitation to the premium lounge was also presented.

Lounge
The single lounge in T1 is for all operating airlines and is well below standard as it small and gets crowded quickly (many flights depart around the same time in T1) with regular seats and substandard catering in the form of cold sandwiches and 4-6 warm snacks along the heaters. A collection of standard cold and hot drinks. 2 computers with slow internet and no dedicated free wifi at the time (there is free wifi throughout the airport for a fee that can be purchased from any of the cafes throughout the departure or arrival halls). The lounge has no windows which really gives much to be desired.

Boarding
Acceptable but not prioritized - typical of Saudi airports.

Timing
Departure and arrival was on time, including a 60 minute layover in Dubai where we were requested to remain on board while the crew were changed and passengers boarded.

Greeting
Warm smiles all around from every single flight attendant throughout the cabin - once the flight begins the FA always addressed me with my prefix and last name. Whenever I call for assistance the FA would kneel down and maintain eye contact with a smile and a can do attitude.

Seating
This aircraft exhibited the old fashioned J class recliner seats with foot rests which worked properly. Acceptable seat width but I personally was hoping for one of the newer J class seats.

Reading materials
SilverKris magazine, Kris shop, safety card and sanitary bag were all well placed in a plastic bag. A collection of variable magazine were on hand on the small cupboard at the aft of the J class cabin, however the FA would present the selection to you by hand.

IFE KrisWorld
The IFE screens were small but worked properly. The world famous KrisWorld AVOD system was a joy to operate, user friendly with much to sample, I personally enjoyed the Documentary selection available.

Amenity Kit
In a magenta green fabric pouch containing the usual eye cover, socks, too brush and paste and ear plugs. The container was disappointing as although larger than usual, it would have been suitable for economy class.

Catering
Nicely appointed menus were distributed before takeoff as well as drinks. On the first leg to Dubai (1 hour 30 minutes) a wide selection of drinks were offered as well as made to order alcoholic cocktails and warm drinks (e.g. Hot chocolate and double espresso) . A snack was then presented on fine china of a gourmet sandwich and salad. On the second leg to Singapore, the same was provided however a large 3 course dinner this time, after the FA would have took a note of your preferences and would bring it to your table separately. You are never rushed to finish your course before the other one is presented. Prior to landing a nice hearty warm snack was also provided in the same manner.

Toilets
Are always clean, I have noticed the FAs would regularly make rounds on the toilets to make sure all is in order.

Arrival
At T2 on time, with smooth disembarkation and once again a warm farwell from the crew including the pilot who was in full uniform at the exit door, always a nice and respectable touch.

Changi airport
Although T1 and T2 are old they are well equipped, extremely clean with many workers who are always around for questions and support. An excellent array of shopping outlets. All the terminals are interconnected by walking or using the automated tram. The new T3 is airy with nice furniture, art work, a shopping center and a botanical garden. There are free electric message chairs throughout the airport - a wonderful touch.

T2 SilverKris Lounge
A large area with many computers connected to the internet, a wide selection of drinks and snacks (hot and cold) excellent shower facilities which are well maintained and equipped. Sadly it’s location renders it windowless with no views of the tarmac.

VERDICT
An excellent airline with attentive service that is “consistent” which I would recommend (even in economy class). Although it can get pricy, from RUH the prices are comparable to the competition. If you fly star alliance frequently, make an effort to fly SQ during your journey - miles that are worth it.
