Hi all,
thought this might be of interest:

My kids ditched Ryanair a long time ago when they realised that Swiss or KLM were much cheaper taking into account all the charges, and on taking into account the time/costs of going to some out of the way airports Ryanair was definitely the loser by a big margin.
Ryanair is on our businesses no fly list and will remain there.
I think LCCs are great for direct trips where you don't have any checked luggage, and especially when travelling alone when proximity to travelling companions isn't an issue and means you are highly likley to be able to snag a preferred seat.
I'd rather take a direct flight than have to change, and my single Easyjet trip was most satisfactory for the price paid.
The BA Value Calculator can be an eye opener for those who are seduced by a "headline" low price which can often triple by the time you complete your journey:
www.britishairways.com/travel/value-calculator/public/en_gb
The BA valu calculator is out if date, Ryanair now charge £60 for airport check in
Also, the value calculator cannot possibly factor in the high cost of airport transport/parking/extra fuel costs when the airport they fly to or from is a million miles from your final destination.
Making direct cost comparisons between Ryan Air and British Airways is impossible due to there being so many variables, unless some one can come up with an xls to consider all the cost/time factors.
It is the same difference as buying an item on a market stall or in a high street.
...not to mention the coughs, sneezes and general unwashedness of many of the other passengers. Though I'm not certain if some of this wasn't exaggerated by regulars to avoid people sitting next to them....
I don't recall ever seeing so many people wearing T-shirts in one place as was the case on my Easyjet flight.
Remember that the article was taken from the Irish Independent and looked at flights with Ryanair and Aer Lingus.
There are very few routes out of London where Ryanair and BA compete neck and neck. And, of course, BA no longer operates any international flights from the UK regions whereas Ryanair does.
Ryanair and Easyjet are always cost more and double on the Routes I take on BA even when booking a year before etc.
Low cost airlines are not low cost but high cost they doing good due to good branding, but they are good at keeping the other fares down on BA etc on what routes they are on, but they are getting greedy like Ryanair charging 60 pounds for check in admin costs etc.
Not only can Ryanair 'the low fares airline' cost you more, the whole experience is 'cattle class' with zero customer care back up.
I stopped flying them long ago.
I'm lucky, I decided many years ago never to set foot on a low cost carrier even if it would be convenient and I never have. The very idea makes me shudder. I've never travelled in economy class either though have walked through from time to time on long haul for the exercise. It looks like the anti-room to hell. I imagine low cost is therefore hell.
After all, if we want poor standards, we can always fly BA ;-)
Henkel.Trocken - I've printed your post and stuck it on my wall to read when life gets bad - excellent!
If you want to try a real hell, try the number 13 bus down Baker Street in rush hour!!
A single on stanstead express is £14.90 with a gold card or £22.50 with no railcard. Yet its a couple of pounds on oyster to London City or Heathrow on the tube.
I usually travel First Class on long haul, but there is nothing wrong with Easyjet on a short 2 hour hop.
Thanks for the reality check Rich. I am doing a day trip tomorrow on the M1, London - Leeds - London (stop in Sheffield) and not looking forward to it at all.
May be the number 13 is not so bad after all!!!
I too have no issue with easy jet but he and Ryan air are no longer in the same league. Easy jet are championship and heading for the premier league.....including prices.
Ryan air by comparison are neither.
Like Martyn they are on my no fly list...would rather not go.
Road or rail Martyn? If road take care with all that ice about. Don't want you writing these missives from a hospital bed!
