In nutshell FWA has ordered Qantas to resume flights and the unions to the negotiation table...hopefully to resolve issues within 21 days...

What happens in 21 days if these issues are not resolved?

Chelsea, the Australian industrial law says that, after the 21 days, if there is no resolution, then either: the parties can be given another 21 days if it's thought likely they can reach a resolution; or Fair Work Australia (the government industrial court) simply imposes an arbitrated settlement.

Either way, there can be no more industrial action. And the unions will not be getting their 'job security forever' clauses, which is really the only sticking point in the negotiations (both sides are happy with the proposed pay rises).

So, with no chance of further industrial action, people can now book their Qantas flights with certainty that they won't be disrupted.

...Thanks for that John (I'm booked to go home for Christmas), good to see that Qantas has laid out a framework for compensation for impacted passengers.

So free tickets for all in an attempt to recover from last weeks decision to ground the carrier with domestic customers getting a free ticket in Australia or trans Tasman. International passengers, many who were left at mid points in BKK SIN HKG etc will have a separate deal to properly compensate them for the experience.

Of coures any deal QF have announced is over and above the legally binding requirement that QF have to compensate each and ever passenger by 600 Euro under the EU directive if the journey began in the EU. I would urge everyone affected to make sure they claim as QF will not proactively distribute this money.
