As part of Wolfgang Prock-Schauer’s commitment to refresh the airline’s mid-haul fleet interior, the company commissioned to undertake the refit have released images of the new economy and business class “Venezia Range Leather” seating on Twitter:

Personally I think Yarwood Leather have done a great job.

We’ll have more details and images of this product early next week, as Business Traveller will be flying on the first aircraft fitted with the seats this weekend.

Wolfgang Prock-Schauer will also be on the flight, so if you have any questions for Bmi, post them here and we’ll do our best to cover them.

Probably just me, but there’s something a bit 1980’s about the name Yarwood Leather – i’m sure we used to have a Yarwood furniture set at home. Before i saw the pics i was expecting synthetic fabrics and big cushions. Can you ask if they will be serving Viennetta onboard?

    Dear BusinessTraveller

Please can you ask Herr Prock-Schauer when Diamond Club will be merging with Miles and More, how much notice we will have, and what concessions loyal bmi customers will have given the lack of attractiveness of M&M vs DC (or indeed Executive Club)

Secondly, can you ask why the short-haul business route network and frequencies have been watered down the point that they are now completely and utterly useless for, errr, business travel. Half of the routes I used to regularly fly bmi on, are no longer flown (CDG, BRU, AMS, LBA, MAD, JER, ORD to name but 6). How can I be loyal to an airline that can only get me to, errr, Khartoum and Tbilisi?

    Yours sincerely

Yes you can add LHR/BHD to that !

Timetable has been vastly reduced with inconsistent frequencies.

This on top of the demise of business to flexible economy with much reduced service and baggage allowance at the same price !

EI from BFS now looking VERY attractive !

My silver card isnt worth that much !

Wouldn’t it be better to start a new thread, clearly titled, for questions to Proch-Schauer?

The J seats are exactly the same seats as before, just re-covered in leather (which I don’t think is very comfortable for flying on for anything but the shortest flights).

A breathable cloth is far better, though of course it doesn’t wear as well as leather.

Good idea – I’ll do that now

VK….you are so right about the leather seats.

It also transpired in the CAA report, after the very sad Kegworth BD 737 crash, that many of the injuries were made worse due to the hardness of the leather seats and passengers slipping down the seats, even with the seatbelt on, during the impact. Fabric is safer and more comfortable.

Interestingly, as well as these mid-haul seats, there was talk of new seats across the short haul bmi network, with one of the advantages of Lufthansa ownership of Bmi being able to source new short haul economy class seating using the Lufthansa network.

If that’s the case, then the new Austrian Airline Europe seat shown here would seem to be the seat in question.

except in the new classic brown colours now being introduced as part of the mid-haul refurbishment.

Then, sometime in 2012, the mid-haul fleet gets completely new seats, with in-seat power and new AVOD IFE.
