    … from the Daily Mail….

Ryanair booking error? It’s cheaper to buy a new name: Student changed his by deed poll and bought new passport for less than £220 fee airline wanted

    – Adam Armstrong would have been forced to pay £220 to fix the mistake
    – His girlfriend’s stepfather accidentally booked him a flight as Adam West
    – Adam is fan of Batman actor Adam West, which had caused confusion
    – But he avoided the cost by changing his surname by deed poll for free
    – It then cost him only £103 to have a new passport issued in his new name

Great story but you have to ask how Ryanair can get away with charging £220. Is this correct or are DM up to their usual tricks of embellishing the truth?

Reminds me of when I recently needed to change my car insurance mid-policy when I bought a new car. Insurer wanted to charge £50 admin fee for the changes. I told them that if they could justify the cost I would pay it, otherwise I wouldn’t.

Insurer couldn’t answer me and nor could his manager, so after 20 minutes of standing my ground, the change fee was waived!!

Not sure this would work with Ryanair!

I’m not sure how true this is or if he really did change his name. It would be a lot of hassle as he’d have to inform his back, credit cards etc. Cheaper to buy another ticket!

Sounds like a Michael stunt, to make sure everybody in the non FRightmare world knows what to expect…..
Remember in low cost land there is no such thing as bad publicity

I don’t think Ryanair are different to BA. You have a 24 hour cooling off period after which non changeable tickets are effectively non-changeable.

In this case BA would have required a cancellation/new booking as well.

I think the bigger question is how on earth is a company allowed to charge £220 for effectively correcting an error in someone’s name. They may as well charge £500….

If I changed my name to WW, would I be guaranteed an upgrade every flight?
