    Dear Most-knowledgable-forum,

I transited through Frankfurt with Lufthansa travelling in First a few months ago and it was a bit of a pain working out where to go to find the First lounge and which one was the “correct” one for my onward flight and which is the best and being confused that the First class terminal is very difficult to access on foot…

I’m transiting through again tomorrow, arriving on an LH flight from LHR and connecting with an LH flight to EWR which I believe departs from gate Z something.

Humbly seeking helpful advice and useful tips from those of you who’ve worked it all out already regarding maximising time in the lounge, best lounge, getting a limo, lounge vs FCT etc.

    Thanks in advance.

I think you can request a car to meet you at the gate and take you to first class ternimal if you have a first class ticket to EWR. This is much better then the senator lounges in the ternimal.

If you arrive on a stand, there will be a car waiting for HON members and onward passengers flying in First. The driver will take you to where you need to be.

If you arrive at a dock you need to get to Terminal B. If you arrive with Lufthansa you’ll likely come into B, so already non Shengen. Get yourself over to gate B 22 in departures and you’ll find the lounge between gates 22 and 24. it’s a fabulous lounge with an amazing selection of drinks and waters from all over the world. There are showers and you can ask for a wash kit which will include deodorant, razor and toothbrush/paste.

There’s a self service buffet as well as a sit down waiter service and the food is great.

Enjoy and I hope you’ll be on the 747 as the A-340 is frankly disappointing in First.

Forgot to add. They’ll provide a car to take you to the plane. You’ll avoid all the boarding queues as they take you literally to the aircraft door.

Thanks both for the info, helpful and informative as always. En route now, will let you know how it goes.

LP, yes it’s the 747-8 which is why I chose that particular route. I’m very interested to see how it compares to the “old” 747-4 with the fantastic side by side bed and seat in First which I’ve done a couple of times and can’t understand why they don’t have on the “new” 747-8 and A380.

I’m envious. I still want to try the 748 but what a shame they don’t have the spare bed as that is really wonderful. Have a great journey.

So, arrived at gate B27 so only a short stroll to the First class security and straight through without waiting (no queue at economy either though) and now in the First class lounge by gate B22 as recommended so really very straight forward indeed.
Not sure how I managed to make it so complicated last time, it clearly helped knowing what I was doing so thanks for your guidance on that!
Limo from here to the Newark flight apparently so that’s good news.

I believe LH’s first class “seat and a bed” concept, on which we reported in detail some four years ago, was a stop-gap aimed at revitalising the older first class product ahead of the new one.

I imagine that there would be space constraints based on the new location of first class on the A380/B747-8 so one imagines there’s no room for both a seat and a bed.

For readers wishing to know more about this product, which is offered by no other airline other than Lufthansa. hers’s the link to the piece we published back in March 2011.

Alex, agree on your first two points as per your reviews and comments in the past.
You third paragraph is the interesting one. As you rightly say “which is offered by no other airline”, in a world of increased competition and difficulty to differentiate, why would they not therefore try to max that product?

I tend to agree. But in the final analysis I suspect it all comes down to a space/revenue balance.

I may be wrong, but I thought that Etihad first class on the a380 had a separate bed and seat?

    Hi,

When you come off a flight from the UK, you are still none-Schengen. If you park at an apron position, a car will wait for you. The car can then take you to either the none-Schengen arrival areas in A or B, or drop you close to B for a transfer to the First Class Lounge (FCL) in B. if you park at a gate, you will have to walk to where you need to be.

I am not sure how long your transit is. However, I always encourage a visit to the First Class Terminal (FCT) if you have the time. My tip is to get to A the best possible way, get down to Arrivals area, exit the building and take a left. From the left-most door, it is a brisk 5min walk through the taxi ranks. At this level, you have an elevator to take you up to the reception.

Yesterday, I had the best travel experience ever. I was on the LH420 from Frankfurt to Boston on the B747-400 with the upper deck seat and bed. This was the first and only time I get to do this: this unbelievable product will be retired this summer. I started the morning in Zurich at the Swiss FCL with breakfast, then worked four hours. My midday departure from Zurich had an apron position, so we were driven to the Avro. In Frankfurt, we were picked up and dropped off at Schengen A. 10 minutes later I ordered my Schnitzel in the FCT.

On-board staff on LH420, the best I’ve had in 22 years of travel. Simply put, the best E2E experience ever.. I like both the B747-8i and the B747-400, but the combined product on the B747-400 is just incredible.

I think BA should send out some mystery shoppers to see what a true First Class experiences is all about..

Good afternoon Senator. I was also on the LH420 a couple of weeks ago and concur with everything you have said. The short walk from the Porsche to the FCT was well worth the effort. I had to try to limit my food intake whilst in the lounge as I wanted to make full use of he menu on board, bit that really is a first world problem. The upper deck was empty apart from myself and a travelling companion and it was sheer joy from beginning to when we landed.
