BAA continue to frustrate the travelling public, navigating T1 now from T3,T4 or T5 is bad enough as we are requested to line up for photo ID connecting to domestic flights so we can enjoy all the facilities T1 has to offer, which most don’t want, they just want to get to the gate of the connecting domestic flight.
BAA now goes even better; T1 has now only 1 combined security point for all passengers, where you are required to have a photo ID and if travelling domestic line up again to get to the domestic gates.
On July 9 I navigated my way to the BMI business lounge, and my 1700 flight was cancelled, so the lounge re booked me onto a later flight and issued another boarding pass. Such was the delay I decided later to exit the terminal for a walk and air knowing I would have to navigate my way back through security.
On presenting my new boarding card issued by the BMI lounge I was told it didn’t have a bar code. I needed a bar code. "Well I can’t help you anymore than what I have” But you need a bar code, "yes you may continue to make the same statement but I cant change what I have"
So after much consultation with colleagues it was decided a manual bar code could be created and was then passed to me. You need to put this in your passport. "I don’t need a passport I am travelling to Manchester" But this needs to go into your passport “what would you like me to say" But the airline will ask for your passport. "No they won’t BMI don’t ask for photo ID on boarding" Yes they do. "No they don’t I use them approx 4 times per week so who do you think is in a better position to know what they ask for?" OK this time I will let you pass.
Then I advise the problem of a lounge boarding card to the security supervisor who confirmed they were well aware of the problem, but hadn’t it seems shared this with the staff who need to know..
On returning to the BMI lounge I also shared the problem of lounge created Boarding cards with them who advised that is I was leaving the security area I should have let them know so the could have attached my original boarding card to the new.” So how was I expected to know that you need to know if I decide to go for a walk, and exactly which part of the original boarding card that you ripped up would you recover from the waste bin to use?"
Does airline and airport travel really get easier for the user? You tell me!
