Can anyone recommend a hotel in Kuala Lumpur? I am looking at the Shangri la, Mandarin Oriental and Traders but would appreciate some advice. Thanks.

FlyingChinaman - 29/10/2011 15:46 GMT

Mandarin Oriental has the best location as it is right next to the KLIA shopping centre.

Traders is a value business hotel from the Shangri-la group.

FirstClassWannabe - 29/10/2011 19:10 GMT

Thank you. Mandarin Oriental looks really good so may well stay there.

FlyingChinaman - 29/10/2011 21:48 GMT

That area is my favourate in KL and you will like the convenience of the Twin Towers and the shopping/restaurants facilities in the commercial centre and the park behind the Mandarin Oriental.

I love the The Club at the Sajauna. It's a 20 minute ride into town but an incredible hotel well worth trying. You can book direct or through LHW.Com

I've stayed at all 3 (regularly) and my choice these days is the Shangri La. The Mandarin rooms are a bit tired, but if you get a room facing the Petronas Towers it is one of the best views in the world. Service is Mandarin is quite poor as well.

The Shangri La is also right beside KLCC shopping centre and I think the rooms are nicer. Traders has a great poolside bar which is superb in the evenings and also has a great view of the towers...

Enjoy KL!

A tip: the best view of the Twin Towers is actually from The Ascott serviced residences from across the street, on Jalan Pinang. The panorama of KL's iconic attraction is just breath taking.

Skybar0107 - 05/11/2011 05:21 GMT

If view from Ascott is the best then the view from Traders Hotels is fantastic. You may check this out. http://www.tripadvisor.com.my/Hotel_Review-g298570-d608399-Reviews-Traders_Hotel_Kuala_Lumpur-Kuala_Lumpur_Wilayah_Persekutuan.html

go to www.hrs.com they can get you superb deals. A lot of the major hotels are desperate for business right now, we paid about 60 USD a night 2 weeks ago through this website

Ive staved at the Hilton a few times. It is right beside the Main railway station and hence is very convenient for the Express train to the Airport.

It also has the best hilton exec lounge Ive experiences in over 25 hilton hotels worldwide (View and food quality)

the view from the traders sky bar is fantastic, book ahead for a poolside window area

For business travelers aside from looking for hotels that might be nearby the business meeting, they also look out for hotels that in easy access to entertainment & shopping places besides they also want a cozy escapades that you will never find else where except Anggun Boutique Hotel. I recommend this hotel because it near Jalan Alor..lots of food stall to taste and just few walks away from Bukit Bintang..plus it really peaceful in there like a village..

I highly recommend the excellent MAYA GRAND which is but a
five minute walk from the KLIA shopping center and the twin
Petronas Towers. The rooms are ultra-modern and luxurious,
the bathrooms spacious with first class amenities, the food
is extremely well prepared, and every possible perk exists for an
exceedingly comfortable stay. It is my hotel of choice for any
visit to KL.

chinaboy8, "MAYA GRAND which is but a

KLIA is at least 60 km. away from Maya Grand, are you sure you can walk this distance in 5 minutes?
The nearest shopping center from the Maya Grand is KLCC, about 7-8 minutes walk.

Moadweeb - 21/03/2012 16:26 GMT

I usually don't share my opinions on Public forums but since I have been visiting KL every month since the past 3 years, I thought I could share my preference for hotels..

I visit KL for business and when time permits, some leisure. For me to do this, I need to be in a hotel that is close to ;

1. Restaurant or Food Court
2. Shops
3. Pubs/Bars
4. Pharmacy [ In Case of that unfortunate illness]
5. Movie Theater
6. Coffee Shops

Also, I am used to hotels offering spacious rooms and not the bathroom sized rooms you find in Europe.

I think the Grand Millennium at Bukit Bintang right next to Pavilion Mall is the perfect hotel and meets my requirement for all 6 points mentioned.

For me the best part is to arrive from a meeting late in the night, grab a drink/dinner at one of the 30 restaurants, catch a midnight movie and then go to bed..!!

I hope this helps ..

Cheers,
Lariv

ritz carlton superb

JamesCoke - 22/03/2012 08:59 GMT

Hi travellers,

As FlyingChinaman, I think that Mandarin Oriental is the best 5 star hotel in this country.

philipjohn - 07/04/2012 14:07 GMT

Thanks for your information Kuala Lumpur is a beautiful place to travel around i am also planning to visit there & i will definitely stay in Mandarin Oriental.
work in usa

asiatravelcafe - 24/05/2012 08:58 GMT

Mandaron Oriental is among the best but its also quite pricey if you consider the budget..I believe you should be looking for more cozy & affordable hotel that still maintained its 1st class service like Anggun Boutique Hotel it is a 4-star boutique hotel yet it very worth of your money..

Airmarc - 24/05/2012 10:35 GMT

Kuala Lumpur hotels are amongst the cheapest in the world! So splash out and go for the best and forget the 4 star stuff. Traders is my favorite and the Westin in the Bukit Bintang area is also worth considering.
