PaulJenningsParticipantHas anyone used Jetstar Asia? And if so, what was your experience? I’m looking at travelling with them from Singapore to Phuket. There is a big difference in price between Jetstar Asia and SilkAir.
Thanks in advance for any feedback and recommendations.

CathayLoyalistParticipantRemember the saying “you gets what you pays for”. I have flown them a few times to short haul destinations Jakarta, Phuket i.e.no more than 90/105 minutes and for that duration price is the determining factor. Jet Star’s seats are crammed in and anything longer than 2 hours will be uncomfortable particularly if you are oversized height and/or weight. You should also look at Tiger Airways as I have found their seats have slighlty more pitch.
If you want any additional services readily available as part of the ticket price on a full service carrier you can get them but at a price.. Extra leg room seats, sitting further forward in the cabin to expedite leaving the aircraft, check in baggage, food and beverage etc all are charged. For a short haul flight I suggest you go as basic as possible. Be aware that even if you only have check in luggage for one sector you will still be charged for both sectors. Finally do not forget the convenience fee for credit card payments which are a rip off many times more than the fees the bank charges the airline.
Keep in view that if something goes wrong delay flight, technical issues, cancelled flight etc they do not appear to be that great in dealing with it.
So the choice is yours. For the short haul go for as cheap as possible and if it all goes smoothly if is good value for money.

Thanks for very informative and balanced feedback.
I think we will give them a go. There’s a big saving to be made on a short flight, and we are not connecting to other flights so if there is a delay it’s not the end of the world.

JimFergussonParticipantPaul-fkaMichelAngelo, I have taken Jetstar flights in Australia and from Singapore to KL and agree with the comments made above. The only down side I found was that I could not check baqs through with them and had to go through Singapore immigration and then check in again. I had time and it worked OK. Should not be a problem for you though.

MartynSinclairParticipantI remember a few years back reports about pilots falling asleep on the flight deck. Now there are protocols to check on the pilots, especially on night flights.
Sleeping cabin crew, especially at critical moments of the flight.. this is worrying…. as the article says, they are all human….. but I wonder what the procedure would be. Would any of us wake a cabin crew member up if they were both visibly asleep at a critical phase of the flight…?
