HighlandTravellerParticipantCan I have recommendations for best Hilton in central New York?
I have plenty HHonors points, so would like to use if possible. Going with my wife so the more central the better….Even better if Diamond Status actually likely to get us an upgrade

DerekVHParticipantIf you are looking for an exec level room avoid Hilton Midtown; there is one exec lounge on the ground floor and it is usually packed and you have to queue for a table at breakfast. Also exec rooms have no coffee/tea making facilities on the basis you have access to the exec lounge which closes at 11pm !

Tom OtleyKeymasterIt’s quite a while ago, but I stayed in the Hilton by Doubletree which has a good position (“Where is it? in Midtown, well situated on 51st and Lexington in the heart of the East Side. Within one minute walk there is a W Hotel, a Marriott and an Intercontinental Hotel, and the subway is only a few steps away.”)
and we reviewed the Conrad
last year….

SenatorParticipantI have started to shift my focus to the Hilton Fashion Districts on 26th between 6th and 7th.
On the plus side:
Great breakfast
Great staff
Excellent roof-top bar with great views of the Empire State Building
Great location for Manhattan
Tend to score rates between $169 and $225 + taxes
Proper shower in the bathroomPerhaps less good:
Small rooms
Narrow hallways
Small gym
No Executive RoomsOtherwise, I avoid the Hilton New York on Ave of Americas, too big. I like the Millennium, it is ok. I have also had good stays at the Manhattan East on 42nd and 2nd.
When possible and I can get a decent rate, I stay at the Waldorf. I have a special arrangement with them as a Diamond VIP.

SwissExPatParticipantLast year I got a great offer via the BA exec gold website for a stay at the Waldorf Towers (hotel within a hotel)
Got the same rate as as the normal WA.
It was a great experience.
I avoid the new(ish) Conrad. As others say, absolutely zero atmosphere in the Lobby. Tiny single restaurant that doubles for breakfast and dinner, no spa. IKEA like room furnishings. How this is in the Conrad group is beyond me.

LuganoPirateParticipantI used to like the Hilton Midtown but I now agree with Derek’s comments especially about the exec lounge. Mind, it has always been very crowded, even when it was on the top floor with a queue forming just before it opened for canapes. I only stay now because it is conveniently located for all the places I have to be, which are within a block or two’s walk.
If you forget the lounge, the rooms are fine and comfortable with some great restaurants and shopping in the surrounding area.
My next choice would be the Hilton Times Square. I prefer this one to Midtown but for me it’s not so conveniently located.

LuganoPirateParticipantNeilsoaj, I was very disappointed when I booked the Waldorf. In fact after one night I checked out and moved over to Hilton Midtown.
The lobby is amazing, but that’s it. Small, old and tired rooms, endless corridors. Even the Towers, while marginally better, was very tired and in serous need of a refurbishment. I’d not stay there again!

Tim2sozaParticipantMy domestic CEO and her senior retail therapy assistant (daughter 1) stayed the past 4 days at the Hilton Garden Inn at W 54th St., using points. They got back today. I am reliably informed that although the rooms were a tad small, the hotel was excellent. Lifts a little slow, everything else spot on. 5 min walk to Times Sq., and 10 mins walk to Central Park. Gold status didn’t get an upgrade but it wasn’t really expected.
Booked them CW out to Newark and WT+ back on Avios. Phoned yesterday to try my luck 12 hours before take off and got lucky and got them both into CW. Aircraft change from 787 to 777 made have explained additional availability. Thank-you BA.

LuganoPirateParticipantTim, I think the Hilton Garden Inn and Hilton Times Square are one and the same so fully agree with your D. CEO ; -) There’s no exec lounge at the hotel though but from memory GC holders got a free continental breakfast, though a bill was still presented so you could leave a tip!
I always got a corner room which are quite spacious but the standard rooms are indeed on the small side.

CarreraNineElevenParticipantI completely share the opinion of SwissExPat.. Conrad doesn’t give me the feeling of a nice atmosphere in the Lobby. I stayed there for 3 days last December, the description on http://www.reservationcounter.com was really compelling but, actually, I was disappointed. Next time when I visit the city, I’ll definitely go for Hilton..

icenspiceParticipantWithout the Loopy Doopy wall drawing in the reception I dread to think. My brother and family stayed a few nights there before moving into an apartment on the same street and were not too impressed.
There is a cinema under the same roof. Trying to find the entrance is another question. The rooftop bar looks nice from down the street on a summer evening.
There are much more vibrant areas within walking distance.

DanielRawsonParticipantHelp! I’m booked in to Times Square Hilton with wife and kid and but notice I can get a room at the Waldorf for same price. Diamond status should hopefully get me a room upgrade. Do I stick with Time Square or go to Waldorf?
