Hilton does not now seem to have a hotel in central Paris. The one near the Arc de Triomphe seems to have disappeared from there booking site. Has it gone the same way as the one by the Eiffel Tower which is now an Accor hotel?

La Defense is a long way out of the centre of Paris.

    Nothing in central Paris.
The lounge-less property in Defense (a soulless outoftown Business District) is a few express-metro minutes away from the centre.

The lounge-less Hilton Orly is, mwaah, as we say in French. Take the hotel shuttle to ORY, then a silly shuttle train to mainline, then train to downtown. Painful, 40-60m.

The well-lounged Hilton Roissy (a fave transit place for me) adjoins the suburban airport train station, whence you are wafted for 35 minutes through depressed and depressing ghetto-burbia to Gare du Nord (a central station).

    And that’s it.

It seems that there is no Hilton Hotel in the centre of Paris. I agree that La defense is soulless & it does not have an Exec. Lounge…….and the other Hiltons are even further out of the City. I do wonder as to what has happened to the one that was close to the Arc de Triomph and had a very smart Exec Lounge?

The owner of the hilton arc de triomphe has a desagreement with hilton. He complained to hilton not to have done efforts to get 5 stars for the hotel with the new hotel star ratings rules in France. He expected to increase the hotel revenue and room rates. He went to the Court of justice in the summer 2012 and the judge accepted he could immediately break the contract with hilton in one month time period.

So the hotel is not anymore an hilton hotel since mid october 2012 and you are right it is like what happened with the Eiffel one some years ago.

The hotel still exists and its name is now L’hôtel des Collectionneurs. But it is not anymore neither an hilton hotel nor it seems any other chain brand. I have not read anything saying it will join one chain in the future.

I believe all managements at the chain hotels are aware about the conflict between hilton and the owner, and might not be interested to do business with him (I am not sure if he is an individual or a company). He is a demanding owner regarding revenue generated and hilton seems to believed this was not achievable. Or maybe he is still in negociations.

But yes now there are no more hilton hotels in Paris. All are in the suburbs.

Thanks, wilson3, for reminding me of the former Paris Hilton on Avenue de Suffren (now the Pullman). I have fond memories of staying there. It was such a treat to (sometimes) have a bathroom window with a view of the Eiffel Tower, without having to spend a king’s ransom (the Shangri-La comes to mind)!

Looks like Paris has gone the same way as Brussels. The Brussels Hilton changed to, I think, The Address. But the City near Nord station is great, no exec lounge, but they do a good soup.

Also Hilton lost the Conrad in Brussels. It is belonging now to a German group.

I used to stay there a lot, in the Hilton near the Eiffel Tower.
The rooms were quite “used” to say it nicely, but the general service and the other facilities were very nice. Their bar was very nice and the barkeepers: best of their kind.
But it was always quite expensive, I paid about 300-400 UK Pounds on average, and thats already some years ago.

AbOdache, you are right in highlighting the story of the former Hilton Arc de Triomphe. As a 4* Hilton, the hotel ran with about 90% occupancy – now without the benefits of an interntional brand over its door (but trading as 5* which was at the heart of the dispute between Hilton and the owner), I understand that occupany is currently about 25%…….
