Nostalgia. Thanks BigDog. Life seemed so much simpler then.

    Two thoughts on this…

Firstly, I understand the new T2 baggage system is entirely reliant on the existing baggage infrastructure under T1 so the terminal will have its doors locked and remain until the next stage of T2 devlpt is ready.

Secondly, we forget how the element of speed has largely been eliminated from air travel. My experience pre-9/11 was leaving Paddington on HEX at 20:10, arriving CTA 20:25, dashing through tunnels to T1, clearing security just after 20:30 and easily boarding the 20:45 BA shuttle to Manchester. Try that today at T5!!

It wasn’t all rosy. I wonder what the longest wait was to pick up a ticket on a Monday moprning was?

How many hours have we all spent in T1. The mind boggles. Another era goes. Sad but but inevitable day.

Indeed. T1 served me well since the age of 9 and is probably the airport terminal I have used most apart from my home airport.

I say Caviar for all pax on the flight to Hannover this evening!

I recall using the Diners Club Lounge between T1 and T2 I think fairly frequently. I guess that has long gone, along with the card.

Quite a sad event really. Lots of memories at T1 including :

    * Getting my first ever upgrade, to club ‘europe’ en route to TLV, and then subsequently downgraded again at the gate!

    * Travelling Concorde up to Manchester on a deadleg route

    Onwards and upwards though.
