BusinessTravellerKeymasterOnline travel agency sunshine.co.uk has revealed the results of a poll detailing the top ten flying superstitions (see news on our sister website seatplans.com below).
Do you have any superstitions when you’re flying, or indeed when travelling in general?

Poshgirl58ParticipantTouching the outside of the aircraft when boarding is my superstition. Never crosses my mind with other modes of transport. On a Cyprus Airways flight from LHR a few years ago, many sets of prayer beads were on display as we taxied. Given that there were two Greek Orthodox priests on board, I didn’t have any concerns!

icenspiceParticipantI only have one. For years I have been checking my watch for the exact take-off and touchdown time. If it is 13 minutes past the hour I am not happy and if it is 13:13, well you can imagine!
At the same time, I have no problem sitting in row 13, flying on Friday 13th, and often pick that number in the lottery!!

stevescootsParticipantnone for me either, I am just very OCD on the plane, superstition has nothing to do with it, its routine. one reason she who must be obeyed hates flying with me!

GivingupBAParticipanticenspice, I once flew on Friday 13th and the flight was only half full – clearly with many fewer passengers than usual – it was great and I’ll choose that day if possible in future.
I’m lucky [?] as I don’t have any superstitions about flying.

Charles-PParticipantI flew back from Israel recently on an EL-AL flight and the aircraft was slightly delayed by a number of Ultra Orthodox Jewish passengers all touching a part of the aircraft and saying a brief prayer before boarding.
As I regard religion in the same light as superstition I suppose that counts in this discussion.

MrMichaelParticipantIcenspice, you recently asked me for the exact take off/touchdown times on my flight from Dallas to Sydney. May I ask what you do with the info, do you keep some sort of log or comparison?
The only superstition I have is to avoid AF. Thought of the same with Iberia but for different reasons.

MrMichaelParticipantHi Icenspice. I am currently at the Taj Club House in Chennai. The last stop on my epic RTW. Back to London on Saturday. Enjoying every moment of it although not sure I would visit Beijing again, fond it all rather busy….and hard to breath. I always thought BKK was bad for breathing in fumes, but it was positively fresh in comparison. Had a bit of dental work done in BKK, bargain…..got a smile like Anneka Rice now.
Emperor Rosco was a disc jockey on 208 Radio Luxembourg although my memory may be playing tricks on me and he was on Radio Caroline. I Am going back to the seventies and the age of glam rock. I specifically recall him (which is why he was my answer to that question) one of their jingles and the late great Tommy Vance.
Glad I have a fan, and I never behave…boring. 😉 bet you don’t either.
Sorry for being off topic folks…….Icenspice started it!

icenspiceParticipantOh I bet they are looking after you well. I am super jealous. Seriously.
BTW I had some dental treatment this week and what he did in 20 minutes was nothing short of spectacular.
A huge hug
PS will you time pushback to rotation?
Sorry folks…Mr Michael leads me astray

MrMichaelParticipantLooking after me splendidly Icenspice, the food is just out of this world…I am a spice merchant!
I will certainly time it, pushback to rotation. It will be my first 787 flight, reviews on J have been positive in the main, glad I am not in economy as it sounds pretty poor back there.
