AMcWhirterParticipantNews is coming through that Eurotunnel has been forced to close.
Striking workers at Calais have started a fire which has halted rail services.
Eurostar passenger train services are also halted.

Charles-PParticipantMy cousin was at the Calais side yesterday and he said the attitude of the French police has been appalling, they have done nothing to break up the strikers and have allowed them to build barricades and tyre walls – this was just like my experience recently when I saw the police do nothing to stop migrants trying to enter lorries and threatening lorry drivers.

LuganoPirateParticipantLuckily I got out with no problems on the 0804 to Brussels this morning. It was all on time and despite saying only 5 tickets left when I booked, there were only 3 people in my carriage.
Thanks for the tip on the shortcut Charles. I had so much time I went for a short walk outside.
I’m now on the final part of my journey home on the train to Lugano.

Charles-PParticipantGlad to hear you got through ok. There’s been a lot of disruption with the strikers clearly unhappy that not everyone was being inconvenienced so they are trying all they can to screw up as many trips as possible.
The big winners of course being the airlines with flights between London and the Continent being nearly full.
As others have said before – Summer is here, France is on strike.

Charles-PParticipantThere was a report on Belgian TV news last night and one of the union leaders was outraged that British people were refusing to recognise the strike and had been throwing things at his members including food, drinks and used nappies. Strikers had tried to block one coach that was returning to the UK but had scattered when the passengers all got off and squared up for a fight – seems the French are not happy that British people are not willing to just accept the situation like they are used to with their own population.

AMcWhirterParticipantThe ferry services remain disrupted.
But a major UK supermarket chain has donated 1,000s of bottles of mineral water which are being handed to lorry drivers caught up in the queue.
