Rail operators axe the quiet carriages as they cause too many rows..

A defeat for the civilised passengers. So much for trying to woo business travellers.

First Great Western axed their 1st class quiet coach a couple of months ago.
The next to go will be the Pullman dining service – another retrograde step!

Well I haven’t noticed the difference on FGW so whatever the quiet carriage was, it was more an idea than a reality.

Interestingly the article said that the 1st class quiet carriage would become a standard class carriage. I’ve pointed out before that the carriage numbering system has changed on FGW. Std class is still coaches A to E/F but 1st class is now coaches K/L/M. This would imply that longer trains are on the way but I haven’t seen any formal announcement.
