NameRemoved-18/12/14ParticipantI know this is not a health forum, but smoking has had a major impact on my travel plans, for example connection times and choice of hotel.
Many reading this will be horrified to hear that at a conservative estimate I smoke about 50 a day. Yes, I am a total chainsmoker.
For the third time in my life I am going to make a serious attempt to quit and I will need all your best wishes because I will need them.
WRT travel, I have 3 trips over the summer….2 longhaul. I have been on quite a few Luxair flights this year and it’s the only airline I know which announces that electronic cigarettes are not allowed.
What is the policy on other airlines?

TravelWiseParticipantBA – Electronic cigarettes are not allowed to be used in the lounges or on board.
Good luck but I think you might need patches.

esselleParticipantI am not aware of any of the major carriers who allow the use of electronic cigarettes on board.
I smoked every day for about 40 years, then decided to give up. My chosen route was hypnotherapy; I went in a smoker and came out about 90 minutes later a non-smoker. That was about 6 years ago, and I haven’t missed my stoggies for a second.
I wish you luck at quitting.

FirstClassWannabeParticipantGood luck and I hope you manage to quit. it is getting really difficult to have a smoke these days, which I suppose is a good thing. I used an e cig going through LHR this year and also in BA F and nobody noticed or said anything, although most pax were asleep. If you are desperate, just go to the bathroom. No fire risk and no smoke so alarm won’ t go off.

fatbearParticipantMy wife has given up smoking and uses e-cigs instead. We are not aware of any airline which permits e-cigs on flights although it is OK in most airport terminals. However, there is an increasing trend to ban e-cigs in Airports so you need to check if it is allowed where you are flying to/from

canuckladParticipantGood news is ……Frightenair does allow them and actually sells them on board. Now whether or not St. Michael will start a long haul destination that matches your requirements alexpo is a totally different matter.
On serious note…..my mate was a bit of a ciggyholic until the night he had to rush his laddie into the A&E…..with breathing problems….whilst in the waiting room anxiously puffing away ,a voice from inside his soul roared out at him……He extinguished the fag and has never lit up since.

SimonS1ParticipantNo Ryanair doesn’t allow electronic cigarettes.
They allow/sell smokeless cigarettes, a different thing.

canuckladParticipantApologies for my ignorance alexpo…..I’m a non smoker and couldn’t tell you the difference between menthol, low tar, super duper Marlboro so It comes as no surprise that I didn’t realize there is 2different types of simulation smoking…..Cheers Simon for keeping me right.

MartynSinclairParticipantAlexpo1 – I wish you the very best…… I would be very happy to share how I did it…. although, I was nowhere near 50 a day…
Please mail me as I don’t believe in publishing these sorts of solutions publicly…

NameRemoved-18/12/14ParticipantThanks all
I am now the proud owner of an e-cig. Still at the testing testing stage but seemed to work well watching the football this week.
Hello Martyn, I will e-mail soon.
Hello esselle, I have never been hypnotised by a professional !! but it is worth looking into.
I think 40-a-day is a more realistic figure as yesterday I counted for the first time in a long time…still 40 too many.

LuganoPirateParticipantGood luck Alexpo. I was a packet a day man until some 30+ years ago I gave up but started with cigars. I never inhale the smoke though, much too strong and I still enjoy them to this day with perfectly clean lungs now.

jsn55ParticipantWell, Alex, you’re brave to try to quit. I would suggest a combination of hypnotherapy and the e-cig. Worked great for me for several years until a humongeous medical mess in my life made me decide that I didn’t want to live without them. I was able to cut my daily ciggies to 6 or 8 … I told myself that it would be better to do this than be forced to quit completely. I do love my addiction but I just make up my mind to not smoke until I walk out of the terminal at my destination, it’s surprisingly easy. Most airlines now blather on about e-cigs, so I use the restroom if I really need a puff, like an 11-hour trip to Cairo..

LuganoPirateParticipantI wish someone would invent an “e-cigar”! Would be almost perfect with the Port.
