Binman62ParticipantBA futures lab is asking for views on direct aisles access and the results to date, based on 179 individual replies, (83% of whom have flown club world) are interesting.
85% think such a product is important (30%) or very important (50%)
All else being equal 56% agree or completely agree that would choose it over the current Club World.
28% agree or completely agree that they would pay more for it and 56% either disagree or completely disagree.
In each case these results are significantly higher that for a poll a few weeks ago.
My view is that direct aisle access such as CX and AA is the way forward and inevitable as carriers fight for premium traffic.
What are your views?

MarkCymruParticipantI agree completely. There are only an unlucky few without direct aisle access on business class on Finnair and Swiss (one window seat in every odd-numbered row lacks it) and, it seems to me, this is the very least that can be offered these days. I haven’t tried the new AA but am a big fan of the Cathay and Singapore layouts which offer aisle access to every passenger. What possessed Lufthansa to introduce their new business class is beyond me (I heard it’s that German business passengers told them that they actually like speaking to one another)

Andrew66ParticipantI agree that direct aisle access is the way forward and I guess that any future plans from BA will incorporate this , because that is what everyone else is doing , it should become the standard norm for business travel .
Personally I don’t find the current set up a real problem , I find the seat comfortable for sitting , eating , relaxing and sleeping , the service i find very good as the food and drink too ,but then I only travel with my wife and we always book row 15 so no clambering over people’s feet and don’t mind have seats E and F in the centre , I imagine most single business travellers would find this aspect unappealing .
We also flew in biz on emirates on a 777 and once again , comfort , service and quality was very good , we had 2 seats J/K and again no problem if my wife wanted to get up and make her way past me , whilst I don’t mind my wife straddling over me , would you want a complete stranger doing this ? I know you would ask someone to move in this situation , but no one likes disturbing people and it seems that people want their own private space where they don’t have to engage in contact or conversation with each other , direct aisle access enables this and people find that more desirable these days .13 May 2013

VintageKrugParticipantBA already offers direct aisle access for over 50% of seats in Club World, and the remainder have direct access when in seat mode.
I don’t really see BA FutureLab as a credible resource, and some of the contributions are at best without value, at worst downright ignorant.

FormerlyDoSParticipant“BA already offers direct aisle access for over 50% of seats in Club World.”
Which means that about 50% don’t have it.
Why don’t you stop the spin for once?
It is really tiresome.

VintageKrugParticipantAs is your negativity and post stalking. Haven’t you read Tom’s post:

I would respectfully request that for the sake of the forum you do not comment on my posts and I will similarly ignore yours. The continued and relentless post stalking, constant references to me rather than what I post is what is dragging this forum into farce.
There is certainly no indication from posting such as the one you made above this that you are a businessperson of mature years and some experience. I’m sure your clients would be quite shocked by such behaviour, were they to read it.
Sometimes it’s simply better to step away from the keyboard.

I comment on your posts because a lot of them contain content that is low grade crap. C*R*A*P.
Don’t bother whining to Tom, I’ve already asked him to delete my profile as I don’t want to be associated with this board any longer.
You are clueless and you have to rise to Binman’s factual post that a lot of people on BA’s future lab like direct aisle access by confirming that BA don’t provide this to about half the CW cabin – this has been the case since Project Dusk was launched – what’s your point? It’s just childlike and pathetic. BA has an outdated product, great bed, poor aisle access – what part of this are you having trouble understanding?
Actually, let me support you, BA Citiflyer also provides 50% direct aisle access – does that make you feel better?
You know what, I really could not care less about you, I just object to such crass comments being placed in the public domain.
Let’s just look at your last post
“I don’t really see BA FutureLab as a credible resource, and some of the contributions are at best without value, at worst downright ignorant.”
Who do you think you are to make such a pompous comment? You are neither the funder of this forum nor the user of the data.
In short, more CRAP.

TravelEnthusiastParticipantVK I have to agree with you that FormerlyDoS’s response to you in this case was quite rude. However, for me the more interesting question is why you felt you should step in with your first comment in this thread. The first few posts came across to me as an interesting, sensible discussion, and certainly not only about BA. Why do you feel you need to point out that Club World has more than 50% direct aisle access when this is clearly not an impressive figure in this context? I am asking because this is quite typical for your posts and I am genuinely puzzled by the apparent one-sidedness of your contributions. Unlike some other posters I would not suggest that you are an actual or previous BA employee, and I would definitely not prefer that you disappeared from the forum since you often make highly valuable contributions.

MarkCymruParticipantLet’s look at the worst case on a BA rival flying a 777: it’s 7 across with four seats having direct aisle access. That makes 57% aisle access. The best case is Qatar with 6 across, of which four have direct aisle access (67%). Any carrier flying an A330 or A340 offers 67% too. BA, by contrast, has 8 across and four have direct aisle access (as VK points out, 50%). It sounds like a competitive disadvantage to me.

VintageKrugParticipant…It’s a tad more than 50% as the rear facing bulkhead centre and window seats also have direct access, as do the emergency exit seats on the Upper Deck.
As already stated, there is no obstruction for direct aisle access when the footstool is in the “up” position, as is often the case on day flights.

I would give up, if I were you.
If all the Club World passengers choose to sleep sitting upright, a la economy, there is no competitive advantage to other airlines.
Especially those like Etihad, who provide 100% direct aisle access in their A330/340/777 fleets.
No one wants to sleep horizontally or stretch out, in a flat bed, do they?

NTarrantParticipantGenerally the only possible problem is when people are sleeping or stretched out in CW. I would prefer to have direct aisle access but if that meant prices would increase then I’m happy with the way it is.
FDoS – I don’t know if you have gone or if this another publicity stunt, but after your rant above I trust that you will leave for good, you have brought yourself into disrepute after that silly post

magnus77ParticipantPerhaps now DoS has gone Vintage Krug will do the same !!!!
It’s detracting from what the forum is designed for or a least what most posters and users wish it to be.
I don’t wish to read the cheap below the belt insults and I for one spend less time on here because of it.13 May 2013
