FAA have banned all US airlines from Israeli airspace.

It’s hard to know who will be more relieved. One paranoid nation refusing to fly to another equally paranoid nation.

WillieWelsh, Is the one paranoid nation the one which had two airliners flown into buildings with thousands killed and the other paranoid country one which has dared to fight back when rockets are fired onto its land?

Easyjet also now suspended to Tel Aviv.

I guess that makes us paranoid as well?

There is no paranoïa here. There is a fact: rockets can reach TLV airport. And the Israeli army cannot stop them, apparently. So no airline can run the risk to see an aircraft shot down. The decision is just logic.

BA have tweeted that they’re still flying to TLV – https://twitter.com/British_Airways/status/491633738452058112

Most American and European majors have headed warnings from aviation authorities…

    Except BA…

….British Airways said in response to questions on Twitter: “We are closely monitoring the situation. Our flights are currently operating as scheduled.”

BA also do not seem willing to be flexible with tixets in light of the situation.

Must be very very daring if they’re doing it all this while…
When does daring end and bullying begin I wonder?

An over reaction in my view. The rocket fell a mile away from the airport and there are plenty of places in the world with a an equal or greater threat that the airlines continue to fly to.

I am not sure there is an over-reaction. Clearly the Israeli army cannot stop the rockets. We might have a similar outcome as what happened in South Lebanon a few years ago: lots of casualties, failure to achieve targets on the ground, negotiation to bring back calm. As long there is no cease-fire, any plane is at risk.

Aircraft are always at risk. The Israeli Iron Dome system is currently intercepting 89% of rockets that are shown to have a trajectory that would see them land in a populated area, the rocket that landed near the airport was tracked and correctly indicated to be heading toward an open field.

As of this morning airline operators continue to fly into for example:

Paris – riots in the streets at the weekend, multiple examples of antisemitic attacks
London – proven high risk of Islamist terrorism
Madrid – long term ETA bombing campaign focused on transport
    Lagos – extensive Islamist terrorism
    Nairobi – extensive Islamist terrorism

    I could go on.

In my view this more about a US President seeking to pressure the Israeli administration than it is airline safety.
