Truly appalling lunch today in CE on a 767 back from Athens. A salad that consited of some chopped lettuce a bit of dried shredded carrot and two small cherry tomatoes. Main course was chicken or cod. FA showed me both. Cod came with rice and all looked very white and dry. I had the chicken which was two small pieces on some creamed potato and a small piece of over boiled broccoli. Totally tasteless. Dessert was only just slightly better with a choice of chocolate roll or cheese. I just don’t understand how they can get away with serving such rubbish in business class and the FA was incredibly embarrassed.

    Caveat emptor.

If they serve up crap in F, what do you expect in C?

I am surprised that there are still people posting on here about the quality of British Airways food. It is poor, very poor in every class on EVERY flight. Every possible corner has been cut. On a recent trip in Club Europe I asked for a spicy Bloody Mary; when I asked for salt and pepper (as BA ONLY have Tabasco in First Class on Long Haul (not even Club World)), I was told that there is only salt and pepper on the food trays so I could only have to use the one set of sachets allocated to me. Really? Sadly, yes! God forbid you ever ask for food on a Sleeper Service…that was a very clever way of increasing profits on the route…don’t give us any food…if you’ve never tried the ‘Pre Flight Dining’ at DXB or AUH you haven’t lived…it’s AWFUL! Every airport needs a Pret A Manger. To make most BA flights manageable buy before you fly…your food that is.

Bombard them with the on-board comments forms. The cabin crew have to forward them to BA.

If the CSD was indeed embarrassed she would have offered you the comments form.

I get the distinct impression that BA just doesn’t care any more…in all departments. The staff are totally demoralised…they have lost the will to fight. The arrogant management are not prepared to admit that BA is rapidly going down the drain….especially in the premium classes and products. So sad.

When the financial perspective is more important to a company, than the customer perspective, this tends to be the result

Short term financial performance is very good, longer term, markets tend to correct.

@Travelcruiser. I know exactly the meals you are talking about ex Athens. The fish is called cod Spetsiosa. It’s basicly a small piece of fish, covered in a bland tomato sauce with rice. The chicken is no better. I’ve fed this info back to BA ( I’m crew) on a number of occasions, but it seems it’s still the same. I’m not sure what’s happened to the food from Athens as uptil last year it was very good. There was a pork medallion dish in Club which was excellent. The other thing I’ve noticed is that the portions are not as big. I know one of the senior executives in catering for BA who work with DHL in LHR. I’ll send her your comments.
Personally I find the food in CE from LHR to be on the whole pretty good. ( Let’s leave the afternoon tea and the extended breakfast out of this!) The hots on the lunch/dinner we serve are normally well received. We round trip the catering apart from the longer flights eg. Athens /Istanbul. Interestingly the food ex IST is very good. Not sure what’s happened in Athens but will send your feedback in. I’d still complain if I was you.

Why should we? These dishes are served for quite a proportion of the day and are not up to standard.

Perhaps it is the Athens base that is the issue, I flew Madrid to LHR yesterday in Club Europe and the choice was also cod with rice or a chicken with salad. The cod however was a tandoori spiced marinated cod and far from dry, even the rice was cooked well. Can’t comment on the lemon chicken but people were having seconds. I did when eating it think it tasted like a good quality microwave meal from M&S or Waitrose but I didn’t really expect anything else ,if anything it was better than my expectations based on recent comments about CE food provision. Until you can build a fully functioning kitchen up front of an A320 what more should I expect? However for me it is the service and the crew that really make the difference. The two crew who served a business cabin containing 30 passengers showed how BA crew can be the best professional yet friendly and happy to have a bit of banter and a laugh with the cabin whilst clearly very busy. It is fair to say that the purser got me more than a little tipsy and the flight flew by.

The only negative for me about the flight was the BA crew member in uniform who must have been commuting to London for work seated behind me in the back row on CE who had his cup of coke from Burger King with him. Perhaps I am snob but I just thought really?

Just been chatting to a friend who lives near Zurich and is (was) a firm fan, Gold Card, of BA flying long haul in First via LHR.

He’s just told me he and his wife will no longer fly BA due to the reduced legroom in business and the awful food on the trip from ZRH to LHR. Good news for Swiss, bad news for BA as he flies a lot.

Chianikid thanks for your comments and for feeding back to BA on my behalf. . As it happens two days later I received one of those automated multiple choice surveys asking about my ATH to LHR experience. I wonder if others had complained? I of course gave feedback on the food. One thing I think is strange on this surveys is when they ask if you had any conversation with a pilot before or during the flight. Anyone know why?

I went CE to Palma the other day and thought the food and service was very good for a short flight, no complaints….

7am – almost 3 hour flight from LGW last week.

Club Europe Breakfast expected – OK its not gourmet but ample if you have had an early start.

Busy cabin – 7 rows almost full in CE.

Purser and colleague served breakfast – extra speedy – only water offered – no extra tea and coffee run then both retired behind the blue curtain for the remainder of the flight. No drinks run not even orange juice offered.

On a visit to the WC I asked why no drinks run and was told there is no drinks run on the breakfast flight !

First time in many years of early CE flights – a lot of holiday makers enjoy a glass of bubbly and it has ALWAYS been freely offered.

I feel strongly about this lack of service or just laziness on the crews behalf- I have the pursers name – what can I do to make a meaningful complaint to stop this happening again assuming however that this is not another BA cutback.

Perhaps any BA crew on this forum could advise.

It’s rubbish that there’s no drinks run on a breakfast flight. I’ve done 2 breakfast flights on BA this year and there were drinks runs on both of them.

I suggest you use the on-line complaints form mentioning the purser’s name (is it purser or CSM now?) but other posters may suggest you contact Van der Post direct.

Definitely has breakfast on CE breakfast flight last week (review submitted to seatplans.com and pending review) and there was definitely a drinks run. More than one, in fact – one gentleman in the row ahead of us got five servings of champagne. He was connecting to SFO, I shudder to think what state he was in when he arrived!
