Wondering if anyone had any tips/suggestions to get the best value car rental for a pick up from Edinburgh Airport?

I drive an automatic (although qualified on a manual!), my partner a manual and there’s obviously a massive price difference between hiring the two.

Am looking for a 4 day hire in March – Ford Focus size car. Any suggestions on how to get best price are very welcome.

The official car hire at Edinburgh Airport is extremely well organised. The desks are a short walk from the terminal, with the cars themselves being immediately adjacent. I’ve usually used whatever Travelsupermarket comes up with in order to find the best deal. Have also had excellent experiences using Sixt there and it can be worth going directly to the hire company website as Travelsupermarket (et al) don’t always automatically seem to have all deals on offer or even all the cheapest deals on offer.

If you don’t mind going off airport, Arnold Clark at Edinburgh Sighthill has given me good cars in the past as well.

Anyone got any experience with using Budget? Consistently coming up the cheapest and the offer I currently have includes an additional driver for free.

    Thoughts/experiences welcome.

I’ve not used them, but I believe they are now owned by Avis, so should be OK
At LHR I know they share the Avis pick up bus as they often drop off there before moving on to drop off at the Avis compound next door

Thanks for that. Going to go for them – Hertz were very good in the US, but on this occasion they simply can’t get near the price being offered by Budget (c.80% more) and they said they wouldn’t honour my Gold Rewards Plus membership (even if booking direct with them) for a free additional driver, whereas Budget are giving me one for free.

I use http://www.121carhire.com as they find the cheapest deal at the airport. Mostly you get a major brand at two-thirds the normal price. Occasionally you get an ‘odd-ball’ but these cars are often better than the big brands.

An example is Dan Dooley in Ireland, newer cars, better service and so so cheap.

I use http://www.carhire3000.com/ wherever I go in the world – they are like a clearance house and source cars from all the biggies at discount rates !

    Carhire3000.com is now called rentalcars.com.

Their offerings are very limited. For example, I went on to find cars in Ibiza in June….none!
    I went to travelsupermarket.com…lots of choice..And cheap ….including Hertz.
