Calais port now blocked by striking French seamen (July 31)

    Matters have taken a turn for the worse at Calais port.

    Breaking news is that hundreds of strikers have blocked the port.

    Having previously seen just how the Compagnie Republicaine de Securité (the CRS riot police) dealt with a student occupation of a part of the Université de Paris (Sorbonne), the complete failure to deal with this strike action/blockade can only be seen as a clear political statement by the French government directed at the UK.

    Time for some serious diplomacy and/or arm-twisting by Call Me Dave?
