Will be flying CX business class from HKG to AMS in March 2013. Aircraft rostered for this was 744 but has been changed to A340-300. Please does any reader have any information when the new business class is to be rolled out to this class of aircraft? Thanks in anticipation.

Thank you BeckyBoop – you’re confirming my suspicions that the rollout is across the newer A330-300 and 777-300 fleets first. My wife and I travelled in CX business class last Christmas on an A340-300 from AMS to HKG with old seating – the cabin was very tired, but the excellent service soon made us forget that.

Highspeed I recently accompanied my partner on an itinerary from SFO-HKG-SYD-HKG-LHR using BA/CX. We flew LHR-SFO on BA in F. None of this involved staff travel (I work or BA).

The SFO-HKG (A340) and the HKG-LHR (744) flights had the old ‘herringbone’ seating and the HKG-SYD-HKG flighs the ‘new’ business class.

I’d read many negative things about the ‘coffins’ on the 744/340 but must admit I found the seats absolutely fine and perfectly comfortable for sleeping. IFE was great and the service on every one of the four sectors I flew on Cathay was absolutely top notch.

The New Business Class really is out of this world in comparison to most other products out there. The seating is just fantastic and as I was travelling with my partner we loved the ability to slide the entire seat forward while in the upright position to dine together etc. Again, the crew were just fantastic and service flawless. But as BeckyBoops links have mentioned I believe they are continuing rolling out the new seats on the remaining A330’s in the coming months instead of the A340’s.

It saddens me to admit that both my partner and I felt that our experience on the Cathay flights, especially the service, exceeded that of our BA flight in F (‘old’ F Class).

The lounges in HKG were great as well. As my partner had some business meetings at the airport I went ‘lounge hopping’ and checked out all three of Cathay’s J class facilities – The Wing, The Pier and The Cabin. They were all far superior to most carriers J class lounges i’ve experienced and I really like the fact that instead of following the standard three indentical lounges dotted around the airport varying only mainly by size, the Cathay Lounges all had a unique feel/proposition. Especially ‘The Cabin’.

    Enjoy!

I was sent an invitation to a ‘seat event’ through the Marco Polo club, assume it’s open to all and they won’t be checking cards at the door, so for those interested in seeing the new seat before they fly, might be worth popping along. Details below:

    ——————————-

Cathay Pacific is delighted to announce that we have been voted World’s Best Business Class in the Skytrax 2012 survey of over 18 million passengers worldwide. To share the excitement, we would like to invite you to discover what makes our new Business Class so special at our Roadshow held in London.

Andrew, is this by invite only or can anyone just turn up?

I’m not 100% sure, I do have a gold Marco Polo card, so assuming that was why I was ‘invited’ but as the event is on for 3 whole days and not a specific drinks reception type affair I thought it was pretty drop-in for any interested parties, but couldn’t say for sure.

Just received an e-mail notification of the event myself.

I agree it appears to be a general invite and not specific names. There is no request for the e-m or invite to be produced to gain entry, also they are encouraging it to be facebook flagged/shared.

I hope those who haven’t had a real experience of the Cathay business product take time to try it – pictures and simulators don’t do it justice.

The new biz class seats are expected to have been installed on 47 aircraft by the end of this year.

The CX 747’s will not be getting the new seats as they aircraft is being retired from the fleet because they are not fuel-efficient. By early 2014 the current fleet will have been reduced to 12.

Thanks to everyone who has responded to this. We’ll look forward to the service and whatever the seats, I expect they will be very comfortable

The new seats will only be fitted on A330s and B77Ws, not the A340s which CX wants to retire

You can see near the bottom of this page http://www.cathaypacific.com/cpa/en_INTL/whatonboard/newbusinessclass the reference: Cathay Pacific’s new Business Class is being progressively introduced on our Boeing 777-300ER and Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Aircraft deployment varies and availability is subject to operational requirements.

CX new biz seat is superb. I saw it and sat in it on a recent flight I had with themm in F.
It will give many First products a run for their money, notably B. As rferguson and others have stated.

I agree with you Binman. I will shortly be posting a detailed review of a trip in CX new business, as well as an AA 767, AA MD80, AA RJ145, AA777, BA777 and CX A330

I suspect my first leg will turn out to be the best of the trip!

Rferguson – if you had access to BA senior management for 5 minutes, what would you say to them about CX vs BA J (or even CX J vs BA F)?

EDITED to correct typos, including writing “keg” instead of “leg”
