    Hi

I am a student from the University of the West of Scotland currently studying towards a Bachelor of Arts degree in Tourism Management, as part of my studies, I am required to complete a dissertation this requires research into a specific area within the travel and tourism sector. I would like to take this opportunity to request assistance from business travellers to participate in a short survey, the particular piece of research is based on the relationship between business travellers and sustainable tourism. The survey should only take around five minutes candidates will be completely anonymous, all information provided will be kept strictly confidential and used for the purpose of this dissertation only

I would really appreciate your help,

    Thank you,

    Adele McAulay

Done as well. Actually this is quite a well put together survey Adele clearly aimed at checking on our environmental credentials?

Done. I wonder how many will enter that they are concerned about environmental issues when they travel but in reality are not because in the present atmosphere we are all under pressure to display ‘Green’ credentials ?
As the recent investigation into the failure of the polling and survey companies to predict the General Election in the UK showed people are now more often inclined to state a view that is the “right” one rather than the true one.

    completed.

This is an interesting topic because there is so much wastage in all areas of business travel that could assist in helping our environment.

One topical discussion from another thread is the environmental effects ex – Europe tickets have.. balancing VASTLY reduced ticket prices verses having to sometimes quadruple the number of flights being taken and the effects this has on the environment.

    Completed Adele,

    Agreed Charles P
I answered the questions honestly, and here’s the rub…..my company is proud of its “green credentials” and rightly so, yet I feel a bit disingenuous about the whole thing.

We are encouraged to use virtual meeting rooms, yet not many managers do unless its business critical meetings happening at short notice. Having said that Lync , seems to be de-rigour these days, yet I’m not convinced they are as effective as proper face to face meetings when you can pick up on peoples body language.

If I’m heading to London, it makes more sense for me to fly, my argument is, the plane is flying anyway, it’s substantially cheaper than the train, and wouldn’t it make more sense to pass on the savings to WWF etc.!!

When in London we are now forced to use Green Tomatoes because of their “green credentials”!
I personally don’t now, as it’s a company that has outgrown its “green credentials “ because corporate giants use them to boost their own green credentials that its customer service has disappeared up its own corporate backside .

And I’m also very happy to advocate environmental issues, as I had to do a presentation on the subject. What I found through research was all a bit thought provoking and at times just made me despair at the environmentalist lobby.

@canucklad things like lync and other conference calls where the camera is coming from your pc are the poor relation to proper telepresence systems.

I am lucky to have access to a cisco telepresence meeting room and that is as good as being in the room with attendee’s. We have a screen one side of the desk where out of the room attendees are shown; from the desk up. There are separate screens for sharing monitors.

Getting a tele white board was also a huge step forward; write on screen in Leicester and it appears on remote whiteboard too; really good for collaboration across continents.

God knows what it cost but i go to mumbai 1/3 as often now

I realised the entire ‘Green’ industry had reached the land of the absurd when BAE Systems sent out a press release saying their bullets were “environmentally friendly” because,

” Our bullets now have a lower lead content because lead used in ammunition can harm the environment and pose a risk to people”

Done. Incidentally, you missed out Latin/South America on the ‘where do you travel to?’ choice, and it’s one of my regular destinations.

Thought it was a wind up Charles, but googled the press release and found a whole load of other research “Green Killing”… am delighted to hear front line soldiers can now get a Blue Peter “Green” badge!

    Completed.

I am now somehat embarrassed to admit that I very rarely consider environmental impact when travelling.
