    Hi All

First time posting and new to the site, I work for a UK based TMC and I am looking to put together some information on the best and worst airports for transiting. There are some that immediately stick out as the best HEL,MUC,ZRH etc and the worst CDG say no more , I am sure there will be some hidden gems out there somewhere that just need finding!

Can only comment on what I’ve personally experienced – SIN for one stands out as excellent, and a few South-East Asian & East Asian hubs are quite good too – KUL, HKG, ICN & NRT amongst others. AMS in Europe. At the bottom of the heap – most Indian airports, where Transit seems an alien word.

Best of luck for your tabulation.

Agree with SE Asia. SIN, HKG, ICN and KUL are very good, although the walking distances for the first three can be very long if you are unlucky with gate allocation

Not sure why people in Europe like AMS so much – you better have good walking shoes, not mind queuing for hours at security and non-Schengen passport control, and enjoy utilitarian lounges… FRA is equally bad. MUC is so much better. Generally the Nordics are quite good, but HEL and CPH are pretty stretched at peak times

I struggle with Helsinki as I always get bus connections to the terminal when connecting from Tallinn. Also now become more of a shopping alley to negotiate when heading towards non schengen gates from the gates in the 20’s.
Can see why it works ex UK to Far East though.
Its all very expensive if you’re not in a lounge.

    Worse List
Miami , going international to international, you always seem to have to go into the USA & then back out of USA..

CDG used to be one of the worst but things have changed in recent years especially when your are flying AF/Skyteam

ICN, NRT and HEL are all great.
CDG Hmmm. I would add 1.5 hours to any layover as it takes soooo long to transit to transfer. I have been sat on a bus watching the plane I should have been on leave.

    Good topic..

In Europe, I like Munich (MUC) and Zurich (ZRH). Munich can handle 30min with no problems.

The US international to international is awful by definition as there is no real transit. You actually clear immigration. I do find American Airlines’ Terminal at JFK quite good when coming in on AA and leaving on AA.

BKK offers endless walks, the same with HKG. I agree with SIN..

BEST – Dubai always works smoothly as does Frankfurt. Zurich I also find easy.

WORST – CDG, avoid if in anyway possible. Munich (they love a bus ride there) and Istanbul.

    Best: HKG is excellent
Worst: PEK because it takes several days to get from one end of Capital airport to the other – and then back again. Perhaps that’s why the Chinese now issue 48 hour transit visas – because they have to.

Helsinki / Munich are the best for me…

LH via FRA is good, but BA to LH at Fra is long….

I always find connecting from domestic to international at LHR T5 to be absolutely seemless. In fact, it used to irritate the life out of me how strict BA are on their 1 hour minimum connection time on through tickets. In comparison, LGW is consistently always a total disaster.

I am also always amazed at how easy international connections are at IST, particularly given the general degree of chaos which appears to be inherent there! Never had an issue.

Best in Europe for me is Frankfurt, worse Madrid if having to change terminals.

Best though is Singapore, always a pleasure. BKK is easy, and even superb, if you need the exercise.

Depends how you define ‘best’. Bahrain and Cairo terminal 3 (international to international) are both very easy and fast to transit through, but aren’t the sort of airports you’d want to spend too much time waiting in. If all you want to do is make a tight connection though, I’d rate them amongst the very best, even if bus gates are involved.

Have to agree with many other comments regarding Singapore – even changing terminals there is quick and straightforward. Never had an issue with Munich or Frankfurt. Don’t agree with Dubai though, transiting through there has always been chaos for me.
