    BA seem to have become exceptionally frugal with their redemption allocations. I’ve been hoping to get an upgrade from C to F against Avios for a few months now, but with no luck. There’s less than 14 hours to my flight, 5 seats are showing available commercially, and yet BA refuses to release any upgrades. I tried calling the Exec Club, but was told that they couldn’t send any messages or help in any manner. I believe I can’t get an upgrade against Avios at the airport. Is this now a lost cause, or is there some route to finding someone who could help ?

    Whilst you may not get an avios upgrade at the airport, there are sometimes upgrade offers to purchase between £599 – 750.

    If that flight you’re looking to upgrade on later is to CPT by any chance I will gladly send a glass of half decent bubbly down your way, but please, no coming through the red rope!!!!!

    Hahaha! Rest easy in your seat, Goldaviator, and enjoy the bubbly. Mine is the Delhi flight 🙂

    i wouldn’t hold out much hope. I tried to get my daughters into CW from YT+ on a flight to IAD the other day. No availability on the system, but 20 empty CW seats on the flight.

    On the return, they were in Y which was oversold by 15 with 23 free Y+ seats, 11 CW and 5 F. No joy. Just couldn’t spend the Avios.

    I am in the same position.

    Having used the outbound portion of my upgrade voucher to move from CW to F, months ago, I have been trying almost daily, to use the return portion from ATL to LHR.
    The return flight in 2 days away and 5 seats available in First (costing $10K to purchase) but nothing available…..

    For the record – I have never been able to use the return portion of a Gold upgrade voucher from CW into F.
    Outbound can be found but (in my case) never anything on the return.

    At the risk of being shot down in flames, this is starting to read a bit like another dose of shareholder value enhancement…. §:-)

    @AnthonyDunn – Since you mentioned it. BA to BCN 22.2.16 back 24.2.16 to attend Mobile World Congress. £1,100 in Y. EasyJet exit row seat and SB £146. I’ll forgo the T5 1st lounge breakfast for a £950 saving. EZ shareholder value enhanced.

    @EasternPedlar – If its the 787-9 operating then the first class cabin has only 8 seats – 6 less than the 777/744

    @MartynSinclair – thanks. I shall ask at the airport.

    @Alexthegreat – it is the 787-8 but the BA website is showing commercial availability of 5 seats. So only three ticketed passengers so far. Strange that BA prefers to fly with an empty cabin!

    @Tim2sms

    I am able to price a BA flight from LGW to BCN on 22 Feb 2016, returning 24 Feb 2016 in economy for £187.

    @Stamford

    Still £41 more expensive than EZY… 🙂

    @seanyjmuclhr

    Of course … still £41 more but no where near the alleged £950 savings!

    Others may disagree with me but I would gladly pay £41 more in this instance for the lounge access and fast track security at Gatwick.

    Avios is wide open for those dates (to BCN and back)….. 14,000 avios + Euros 42.

    In fact for that entire week, avios flights are wide open….
