HedgeFundFlyerParticipantJust got an email to tell me it’s “even more exclusive” now. It seems you can no longer get in by earning 3000 TPs per year for two consecutive years. From now on, only 5000 TPs in one year will get you in. The implication is that if you are already a member, you can stay as long as you keep notching up 3000 TPs per year.
No word on what happens to the CCR card. I assume that remains a 5000 TP a year privilege.

Gold-2KParticipantI got the same email. It’s clear that you now need 5,000 points to get it first time, but not sure if existing Gold Guest listers can retain it in future years by getting 3k points.
If the annual threshold is now 5,000 it essentially means Concorde room card becomes a benefit of GGL ?

ForeignescapeParticipantWill have to wait and see but with the Concorde room overflowing at some points during the day maybe that moves up as well?

Gold-2KParticipantI’ve just read through the Ts&Cs effective Jan 2015.
The only way to be invited to be a GGL member for the first time is to earn 5,000 TP in ONE year.
So the old rule of hitting 3,000 TPs for 2 consecutive years will not get you ‘on the list’ anymore. It has to be 5,000 points in one membership year.
Once you have made it on the list, you need to hit 3,000 points each year to retain the benefit. So this is no change from the current rules.
So harder to get on the list initially, and for existing Gold Guest Listers, if you miss your 3,000TP goal you are off the list and will then need to hit 5,000 to get back on.
So yep I guess that will make GGL more “exclusive” !

KarlMarxParticipantI know I’m an economist and my partner assures me I have the EQ of Spock, but…….
What is the big deal about GGL on BA? It’s a mid-ranking airline, with some very old aircraft, some of the poorest seats in short haul and a ‘mature’ business class long haul product. The Concorde Room, with all due respect, is nowhere near the best lounge at Heathrow, never mind in Europe.
Why don’t people just assess the alternatives and make rational decisions?
GGL is not an honour, it is just a loyalty layer from a vendor.
Surely, there are good alternatives out there

MartynSinclairParticipantI don’t think the jump from the First lounge to Concorde lounge (and there are only 2 such lounges in existence) is sufficient incentive to gain 5000 tier points.
Only benefit in my mind of 5000 tier points per year, is lifetime gold achieved in 7 years…

TravelcruiserParticipantI used the Concorde Room for the first time two weeks ago. Have to be honest and say I was very underwhelmed by the experience. Very busy at 2pm and no booths for eating available. I sat at the bar opposite the booths and then had to wait ages for someone to bring me a menu. Food arrived and I had just 30 mins to eat. Clearly much more time needs to be allowed for using this lounge and I actually couldn’t really see what the fuss is about.

BugAdvisorParticipantThe BA Exec Club Rep has posted a set of FAQs about this on Flyer Talk http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/23899700-post1.html

seasonedtravellerParticipantI received this email and I have to say that I am disappointed.
Gold with BA – Last membership year I gained 3,800 tier points (traveling only in Economy and WTplus so, a lot of flights needed to reach that level) – I wanted to reach the Gold Guest List this membership year and should easily have done so, however..
BA have given me until April 8th 2015 to amass 3,000 tier points (currently at 780 after 2 months) – since its almost December now, I have 4 months to add another 2,200 points. Even though I am now booking in CW / Business, December & January transatlantic flights already booked and paid for, 1 with BA & 2 with Star carriers, this effectively leaves me with February and March to collect 1,900 points – almost Seven transatlantic flights
Doesn’t seem like a very generous “gesture of goodwill” to me?

Totally feel your pain.
But, you see, BA would expect you to cancel those 2 fully paid for Star Alliance airline flights and re-book in CW to show your loyalty.
Must say, it’s late notice for many hoping to make gold in the next 6 months or so and will no doubt annoy many.
I think this brings BAEC Gold in line with Qantas’ super top tier Platinum One which is 1 step up from oneworld emerald.
More inconsistency within oneworld.

openflyParticipantWith so many routes moving to T3 next year and hence First pax not getting to the Concorde Room in T5 there is no incentive at all to stick with BA as a Premium.
BA keep shooting themselves in the foot. The 2500 Tier Point level prize for an upgrade for two is only usable when Avios are available. So, mainly worthless, unless you are lucky on a JER…forget long haul premium upgrades.
There seem to be moves afoot to close all these features down, in time.27 Nov 2014

placeinthecountryParticipantSorry BA this may just tip the balance of my loyalty to you. I’m fed up of fending off criticism by business colleagues who moan about tired planes and even more crotchety cabin staff…..Tonight I’m looking at the Virgin schedules and see if they prefer my loyalty.

WillieWelshParticipantIs this something people really want to achieve? The idea of slavishly following one airline that offers a substandard on board product in premium cabins purely to get access to a different lounge at LHR strikes me as misguided madness.
Get out there, try the competition and get a life.
