Just checked in at BA LGW and had my hand baggage weighed and checked. According to the check-in agent there is a missive from on high at BA LGW that all hand baggage must comply with the regulations. Gold or not does not count. Annoyed passengers!
I gather that the folks at Easyjet are delighted at the action.

So whats the problem? xx

Dearest Becky,
After that comment you are no longer in a position to say that you are not VK. Weighing baggage and forcing payment is one key reason why Ryanair's reputation is mud.

If they are ensuring compliance with clearly published policies then what's the problem?
Where in the list of Gold card benefits does it say that rules don't apply to you?
Pity all airports didn't apply the hand luggage rules. I am all in favour of ensuring correct hand baggage only is taken through. Should speed the process up and make those that take the P**s, pay their way in a more appropriate manner.
Ryan Air reputation is mud - good, don't fly them.
Well done BA!.

I am sure this has been a topic several times, but I really do wish all airlines would adopt or even enforce their own rules on cabin baggage.
I have always only taken on board the allowance, and when I need to check luggage in I then have the patience to wait for it at my destination. No burden to other travellers, and then there are the others. You know who you are.
easyJet will be p*ssing themselves :-)
They have hammered BA's short haul business at LGW and have no limit (within reason) on hand luggage weight.
Now BA decide to enforce their rules and give easy competitive advantage.
Priceless!
Although I understand that the measurements may be checked ("...not exceeding 56 x 45 x 25cm...") why on earth was it weighed? BA policy on hand luggage is "No weight restriction provided the bag can be lifted into the overhead locker unaided."
Actually it says here "A 23kg (51lbs) maximum bag weight applies and you must be able to lift the bag unaided into the overhead lockers in the aircraft cabin".

Openfly, in light of the info at 07/02/2012 11:08 GMT what weight limit was applied to your bag?
BeckyBoop - 07/02/2012 11:15 GMT
Hengli123 in the nicest possible way shut up!
Disgusted I love your post xxx
For the rest of you who are moaning about this STOP blaming the airline for YOUR mistake. YOU tried to abuse the system (not necessarily deliberately) but those of you who did know what you were doing cant live with the fact you got caught and now have to pay the price!!!...LMFAO xxx
@excess
Ah yes, my error, ('my bad' as the boopster would probably say{no offence intended becs - I love it when you rattle some of these cages!}) I was copy/pasting from an internal company memo. just checked BA.com. Still, who would put more than 23kg in hand luggage? Certainly would be a struggle to lift into the bins unaided!
ChrisBuda82 - 07/02/2012 11:36 GMT
I allways been told you can take as much weight as you carry by BA staff.
excessbaggage your right about the 23kg in that link is this a new thing?
23kg is very good compared to other airlines also with BA you get 23 in the hold, some think you dont get with easyjet.
RichHI1 - 07/02/2012 11:37 GMT
Luckily I am not sure how much 23kg is but I have a feeling I would be guilty here as I pack all my electronics and valuables in carry on (3 computers, video gear etc..)
As an example, I'm on a 3 week tour of Europe and the Middle East, have this lot in a hard sided polyprop. suitcase - two pairs of trousers, one jacket, 9 sets of underwear/socks, a lot of toiletries, a DVD-drive for my netbook, 25 DVDs, one spare pair of shoes and 1 pair of substantial sandals, a sweater, two T shirts, a set of pyjamas and probably a loasd of stuff I've forgotten - just over 21 kgs.
And the suitcase is 67 litres, way bigger than a wheel on piece.
NTarrant - 07/02/2012 12:24 GMT
Disgusted - only 9 sets of undies and socks for a three week tour! Do you wash/launder them or turn them inside out!
As I tend to use the same hotels, I always leave a weeks worth of clothes in each hotel. When I leave they get laundered - better service than I get at home. Always hung up nicely in my room on arrival. Saves some of the hassles of packing/unpacking.
NTarrant - 07/02/2012 12:38 GMT
I assume Martyn that Mrs Sinclair doesn't read this forum!!
BeckyBoop - 07/02/2012 12:39 GMT
Martyn "better service than I get at home" dont ever tell Mrs S...lol xx
Discusted only two pairs of trousers... ewe :( and why 25 x dvds? xx
