We are considering introducing QR codes in the print edition of Business Traveller.

For those who haven’t heard of them, QR codes (QR standing for Quick Response) work by enabling smartphone users to scan a square graphic using a QR code reader app (of which there are plenty available to download), which then navigates the user directly to a website or specific webpage without having to type in the URL.

Have you downloaded a QR code reader? Would you be interested in using this technology to access websites via your mobile? Let us know your thoughts.

In the meantime, here is the wikipedia page with more information on QR codes:

And here is an example of a QR code, which should take you to the competition page on the Business Traveller website, where this month you can win a Powabyke electric bike, worth £999:

Yes these are brilliant – you do need an internet connection if you want to view immediately. Was recently in HKG and the Governors Residence was open ( only twice a year ) All the descriptive at the various locations was QR codes.

I use Optiscan ( paid for ) app for the i phone.

USA today also has them using Microsoft Tag Reader – same idea

I think QR codes can be extremely useful and also a great marketing tool. The company I work for, National Hospitality Supply, just started printing QR codes on our print catalogs. We weren’t sure what to expect, but the amount of mobile traffic to our website has doubled since we began using the codes.

I think you’d need to offer a compelling reason for me to actually scan one (e.g. competition), but I have used them in the past and find them handy.
