Any experience of Skyworks Airline? Other ways to get to Grindelwald?

IanFromHKGParticipantWe have been recommended to try Grindelwald for our ski-ing holiday next year. The Memsahib and Offspring would be starting from and returning to Kent (so southern London airports would suit) and I will fly in from Honkers so preferably transiting via a CX destination (perhaps the new Zurich service?).
The best UK flight option in terms of ease of getting to Grindelwald seems to be Skyworks from LCY to Bern-Belp, an hour from Grindelwald – but I’ve never heard of them and neither, it appears from the forum’s list of airlines, has Business Traveller. Does anyone have experience of them?
Any other suggestions for getting from Kent or HKG to Grindelwald?
All suggestions gratefully received! Many thanks in advance (and apologies – I know this is leisure rather than business travel, but I am sure this is the best panel of experts to call on for advice!)

Tim2sozaParticipantGrindelwald Apartments seems to have some travel options worth a peep. (I have no association with them.)

Raffles99ParticipantWe went about 4 years ago, and did the standard train trip (2 and a half hours?) from Zurich. Or Geneva. Whichever. It was fine even with a 2 year old to hand.
We stayed in http://www.hotel-schweizerhof.com/sommer/EN/ but NOT in the hotel which is a scary chocolate box confection! Click ‘Luxury chalets’ on the site and you see the uber-modern lodges built behind the hotel, and linked by a funky lift which actually goes up and sideways instead of straight up!

LuganoPirateParticipantHi Ian,
Skyworks has been around for some time, mid 80’s, and started as a charter airline. It’s an efficient and reliable operation and took over the LCY route after Darwin abandoned it with the Dash 8. I believe the British Embassy personnel use the service to London, so it can’t be too bad.
There’s a bus from the airport direct to the main station and it’s a fast, clean and efficient service costing about CHF 10.
For the train times and fares look at SBB.ch It’s in English as well. They also have a useful app on iPhone and Android and it’s quick and easy to buy tickets online even with a non-Swiss credit card.
Alternatively they could fly from LCY into ZRH and take the train from there.
Hope that’s of some help?

KirRoyaleParticipantThere aren’t many great options to Grindelwald. I suppose Bern might be feasible but if you are travelling internationally your connections are likely to be awkward.
I did the journey a couple of months back and I ended up taking the train from Zurich Airport. It’s about 3 hours with some changes but the trains were civilised–and as expected–ran on time.
The Schweizerhof is lovely. five minute walk from the station. Fantastic food. Hotel room so so but I enjoyed the stay and slept well.
Grindelwald is a pretty town but unless you are a big skier and are looking for a new experience there are probably some easier places to get to.

PeterCoultasParticipantLCY to bern is undoutably the most convenient – transfer to SBB Bern as LuganoP suggests and then to Interlaken with second easy transfer to Grindlewald – all very efficient and Swiss. Swiss give free ski transport but am not sure about Skyworks. Swiss Rail also have baggage shipping deals.

IanFromHKGParticipantThank you all for the input. Chalet was booked this morning! Now I just have to hope I can get from LHR to LCY in two hours to make the connection!
