American Airlines MD 80 First (short haul)

Although I enjoy the quietness of the MD80 in the First class cabin, those planes are really getting old.
AA did a good job on this flight to Las Vegas, it was on time, the FA attentive and the food acceptable.
The only minus was the lengthy wait for the luggage to be delivered.

Glad you enjoyed your trip to Las Vegas!
Please note that we're planning to acquire 460 narrowbody, single-aisle aircraft from the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 families beginning in 2013 through 2022.
This is the largest aircraft order in aviation history!

Have a great time in Vegas! Will you be celebrating New Year's Eve there?

Any dates for retiring the ancient 757's that fly to Hawaii?

AAEurope - 29/12/2011 09:56 GMT

@RichHI1 No date has been confirmed yet. We will transition four fleet types (MD-80, 737-800, 757, 767) to two (737 and A320 families) - offering significant commonality benefits and helping to continue our fleet simplification efforts.

RichHI1 - 29/12/2011 09:59 GMT

OK. Interesting I thought the 762 and 763 were being replaced with 787. I did not realise you were downsizing aircraft on trancontinental and the 763 ORD, DFW, BOS and RDU flights.

Please can you specify gaspeers on the new aircraft as the 763's without them can get very stuffy overnight.

137 in First was excellent on trip home by the way, early, great service (including trun down and pajamas) and the usual 25 minutes from door open to limo. Your service for CBP at LAX is a different class from BA and TBIT.

@AAEurope: "and helping to continue our fleet simplification efforts". Why on earth then did AA order A320s?

RichHI1 - 30/12/2011 04:08 GMT

Absolutely. The last airbus they bought was universally disliked and one fell to bits at JFK on take off. Can only think airbus were giving them away. Big mistake in my view as pilot training is completely different. At least everything else remains Boeing.
