CromartyScotParticipantSeeing some pretty great fares to Sydney in biz at moment (c. £1700 on Skyscanner for Dec) which sounds very tempting. Can anyone give their opinion on their product at the moment. Seems to be 777 to Delhi and then 787 on to Sydney.

The price reflects the product. Have you checked the connecting times via Delhi?
When AI returned to Sydney not long ago the flights did not

TimFitzgeraldTCParticipantRemember you’ll most likely need a Visa if you want to stopover. You can’t leave the international terminal without one (if on UK passport).

Visa works out at around £100 and you need a double PhD in gobbledygook to work out the online application. It took me about 10 hours to complete the paperwork for four people including writing a letter of consent for my daughter even though she is travelling with both parents, copies of birth certificate, details of previous visas etc. aagh!

I was referring to AI’s price on the LHR-SYD route. The quoted fare for December (a peak month for travel DownUnder) is way below what other carriers are charging including the Gulf airlines.

Newish modern 3 star with a gym and a couple of places to eat/drink.
Its clean and generally adequate for a 3rd world transit hotel

mkcol74Participant@CromartyScot I’ve had a nose around on AI site, the airport site & also Skyscanner. Sub £1700 seems quite achievable. Choice of 777 or 787 on way back DEL-LHR depending how long you want to stay at airport (20/12hours) & hotel is pricing around US$125 for a night B&B, so no visa required as it’s airside.
All in all definitely one I’d consider.3 Oct 2014

CromartyScotParticipantDecided to go for it. £1650 business class to Syndey for three weeks over Xmas. Will post a trip report and let you know if it was money well spent or not. The seat and the space are the main considerations for me for that length of flight – food and champagne are secondary.

MartinJParticipantGood on you! I am seriously tempted. Their 787 flat bed is superior to Club World but I am not so sure about the 777. Like you, the main reason I fly business is the space and privacy and I don’t care much about food, booze or entertainment. Please do let us know how it went.
