Air Passenger Duty to be scrapped… for the under 16s

    http://www.businesstraveller.com/news/101102/air-passenger-duty-to-be-scrapped…-for-the-un

I was very impressed yesterday to receive the following from Easyjet.

    easyJet booking ref: XXXXXXXXX

    INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR APD REFUND

Flight Date Flight No. Dept. Airport Arriv. Airport Dept. Time Arriv. Time
02-MAY-15 ZXXXXX XXX XXXX XXX XXXX XXXX

Yesterday the UK Chancellor, George Osborne, did the right thing and abolished Air Passenger Duty (APD) for children over 2 and under 12, effective from May 1 2015. This is great news for families who will save at least £13 per child when they depart from a UK airport. We fully support any measure which helps make travel more affordable.

We can see from your booking that you have booked a flight/s for a child/children who are 16 or under. If the child/children will be under 12 on your date of flight departure from a UK airport then you will be eligible for a refund on the APD you paid at the time of booking.

If you qualify for a refund and you’re travelling to Europe or beyond please go to easyJet.com ‘manage bookings’ and enter your travel document details (APIS/ID information). You’ll need the passport or identity card details of everyone travelling in order to do this.

If you’re travelling on a domestic flight within the UK or are unable to provide your travel document details (APIS/ID information) please go to easyJet.com/apd to fill in an APD age confirmation form. This form will be available online from Wednesday 10 December. You’ll need the above booking reference number, name and date of birth of the child/children travelling.

Once you’ve entered your details we’ll do the rest and you’ll receive a refund directly onto the card you used to make the booking within the next 28 days.

We’ll send you a confirmation email as soon as we’ve processed your refund so there is no need to call us in the meantime.

I’m impressed. I wonder if Ryanair will do the same?

In fact Ryanair will offer the APD saving with effect from March 27 and in time for Easter.

I think LP’s point was whether Ryanair would contact passengers already booked to offer a refund.

Thanks Simon, perhaps i should have said if FR will be equally as proactive as Easyjet.
